Ioan Gruffudd collected a Welsh BAFTA award sporting a black eye after his wife hit him with a golf club.

The Welsh actor appeared at the ceremony with heavy make-up over his left eye and cheek following the accident.

Ioan and his actress Alice Evans were enjoying a game when she swung a club and inadvertently struck him square in the face.

The 'Fantastic Four' star was honoured with the Tlws Sian Philips award for his contribution to film at the Wales Millennium Centre, in Cardiff, on Sunday (27.04.08).

As he collected his award, Ioan praised his clumsy wife, saying: "Love you baby angel."

Ioan played the lead role of William Wilberforce in 2006 film 'Amazing Grace', a biographic film about Wilberforce's fight to abolish the British slave trade in the 19th century.

The 34-year-old actor married Alice in Mexico last September, and the couple currently live in Los Angeles.
