Tom Hanks is being inundated with offers to become the next president of the Philippines.

The 'Forrest Gump' star is constantly being asked to take charge of the Southeast Asian country whenever he visits.

He revealed: "They say, 'You should come down and be president here.' "

Hanks - who is about to celebrate his 20th wedding anniversary with wife Rita Wilson - admits the offer of presidency is a far cry from his first ever job of selling soft drinks at baseball games.

He said: "On the very first day, I got robbed of all my pockets. What I learned from that is that no one knows that you are a vendor if you don't wear a white shirt. Number two, have some money in your pocket, but keep most of your money in your shoe."

Since selling hot dogs, Hanks, 51, has become one of the world's most successful actors - winning the Best Actor Oscar twice - but insists he's just been lucky.

He added to America's OK! magazine: "I have no secrets to my success. I stumble around and get lucky. That's my thing."
