A passel of Pats and almost the entire Sox squad were at the Garden last night for Game 2 of the NBA Finals. Pats players in the house included Adalius Thomas, Heath Evans, Wes Welker, Jabar Gaffney, Chad Jackson, Richard Seymour, Sammy Morris, Vince Wilfork, Ben Watson, Ty Warren, and former Patriot receiver Donte Stallworth. The Sox contingent was expected to include Curt Schilling, David Ortiz, Jon Lester, Josh Beckett, Mike Lowell, Jacoby Ellsbury, Tim Wakefield, Coco Crisp, Julio Lugo, Alex Cora, and front-office folks Mike Dee, Sam Kennedy, John Henry, Tom Werner, and Larry Lucchino. New Kid Donnie Wahlberg was there, as was golfer Billy Andrade, actor-comedian Lenny Clarke, nightclub king Patrick Lyons, singer Erykah Badu, and teen star JoJo Levesque. The Pops performed the national anthem, and conductor Keith Lockhart stuck around afterward to catch the game. We're told Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeff Lurie flew into Boston with quarterback Donovan McNabb, and after dining at Scampo, the pair beat feet to the Garden. Other NFL players in attendance included Brian Westbrook, Brian Dawkins, R.W. McQuarters, James Butler, and Vince Young. Former BC basketball star Jared Dudley was at the game, as were ex-BC star Doug Flutie, Celts alums Marcus Banks, Antoine Walker, John Havlicek, M.L. Carr, Dana Barros, Tommy Heinsohn, and Jo Jo White, and ex-Knick Allen Houston. NBA commish David Stern and his deputy Adam Silver made the scene, and you didn't think Magic Johnson would miss a Celts-Lakers game, did you? Last and definitely least were Lakers fans Alejandro Padilla, who's a California state senator, and actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who was up in a suite with his "Ashecliffe" costar Mark Ruffalo.
These chefs are hot stuff
Remind us not to call
Tom Colicchio a celebrity chef. "Do you call someone a celebrity baseball player?" said Colicchio, in town the other day to tape an episode of "Simply Ming" with his friend and colleague
Ming Tsai. Just because he's on TV - Colicchio's the head judge on Bravo's "Top Chef" - that doesn't mean he's not a serious chef. Indeed, in addition to his TV duties, which demand relatively little time, Colicchio owns more than a half-dozen restaurants, the latest being Craftsteak at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods. So how does he explain the star chef phenomenon? "In the '80s, you had people going out to clubs and snorting copious amounts of money up their nose," the chef says matter-of-factly. "Then they found new entertainment - going out to eat - and they wanted to know all about the personalities in the kitchen." That led to cookbooks and TV shows. Tsai, whose show is beginning its sixth season on WGBH, said there are plenty of talented chefs who don't have TV shows. "But because we're on that little black box, we're considered celebrities," said the chef/owner of Blue Ginger. "It's weird." The new season of "Simply Ming" airs in the fall. Colicchio, by the way, told us he's looking forward to the biopic about his friend Julia Child. "
Meryl Streep is probably the finest actress we have," he said. "If anyone can pull off playing Julia, it's Meryl Streep."
