Angelina Jolie has given birth to twins.

The 'Wanted' actress and her partner Brad Pitt welcomed baby boy Knox Leon, who wighed 5lbs 3 oz and girl Vivienne Marcheline, weighing 5lbs, on Saturday night (12.07.08), at the Lenval Hospital in Nice, France.

The obstetrician who delivered the twins via Caesarean section Dr. Michel Sussmann said: "The babies are doing well. The operation went just perfectly. Angelina is in very good spirits. Brad Pitt was at her side. He was there and all was well."

Dr. Sussmann also confirmed the operation had been moved forward from its originally planned date.

He said the change was made due to "medical reasons" so the twins were born "in the best possible conditions" and added he expected Angelina to stay in hospital for at least several more days.

He added: "The mother and father are very, very happy."

The couple's newborn daughter is named after Angelina's mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who died of cancer last year.

Angelina and Brad are already parents to biological daughter Shiloh, two, and adopted children Zahara, three, six-year-old Maddox and Pax, four.
