Jury gets Britney case

A jury in Los Angeles began deliberating yesterday in Britney Spears's driving-without-a-license case and then left for the weekend without reaching a verdict. Spears hit a parked car last year while driving in California on her Louisiana license. Her attorney says she didn't meet the state's residency requirements and was within the law. But prosecutors say the 26-year-old had gotten married, had two children, and filed for divorce in Los Angeles, and was ostensibly a California resident. Spears did not attend any of the two-day trial. (AP)
Barker goes home
Travis Barker is out of a Los Angeles burn center where he was being treated after surviving a plane crash that killed four people. The former Blink-182 drummer was released yesterday from the Grossman Burn Center. He had been there since Sept. 29 with second- and third-degree burns. The burn center says the 32-year-old rocker will be treated at home and is expected to fully recover. Barker was initially treated in Georgia after the Sept. 19 crash in South Carolina. Adam Goldstein, better known as DJ AM, also survived. (AP)Probation for actor
Actor Andy Dick has plead guilty to misdemeanor drug and battery charges. Dick was ordered to serve three years of probation and wear an alcohol monitor for the next year, court records show. He avoided felony charges stemming from his arrest in mid-July after prosecutors determined Dick did not commit felony sexual battery after a teenage girl accused him of pulling her top down. The actor did not appear in a Riverside County courtroom yesterday, but his attorney stood in for him. He was arrested after officers responded to a call about an intoxicated male outside a restaurant in Murrieta, about 80 miles east of Los Angeles. (AP)© Copyright 2008 Globe Newspaper Company.
