Remembering the Roaring Twenties
In keeping with the current Depression-era vibe, Eastern Standard owner Garrett Harker hosted a Prohibition party this week, a "Roaring Twenties" rave marking the 75th anniversary of the day drinking resumed. (The six-course menu, including Cockscomb - a.k.a. rooster crown - was pared with cleverly named cocktails such as the Hanky Panky and the Charles Lindbergh.) A sellout, the swinging shindig attracted Longwood Events owner Jim Apteker and wife Alina, SalonCapri's Nick and Amy Penna, the BSO's Nina Jung, author-about-town Chris Kenneally, and producer Joan Quinn Eastman.
100 reasons to celebrate
Famed composer Elliott Carter, with BSO music director James Levine, cuts the cake at his 100th birthday celebration at Symphony Hall yesterday. Carter turns 100 on Thursday. The BSO will celebrate the big day with a performance of Carter's "Interventions" at Carnegie Hall.Kickin' around town
Boston Breakers stars and Olympic gold medalists Angela Hucles and Heather Mitts paid a visit to the kids at the Franciscan Hospital for Children yesterday. The stop was just one in a three-day Boston tour for Hucles, Mitts, and teammate Kristine Lilly. The women also logged appearances at the tree-lighting ceremony on the Common, last night's Celtics game, and the Puma store in Natick. The "big three" are promoting the inaugural season of Women's Professional Soccer, which kicks off in April.Brady wedding plans?
The Internet (or "tubes," as the felonious Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska likes to call them) is buzzing again with rumors of a Tom Brady-Gisele Bundchen wedding. Word is the supermodel and Pats QB are planning a small, mid-March wedding in Costa Rica, where the two have previously frolicked at Bundchen's vacation home. We're dubious but watching for that save-the-date card. Quiet on the set
Donnie Wahlberg is expected to spend Monday filming scenes for the TNT cop drama "Bunker Hill" at the Union Oyster House. No word on whether costar and Tom Brady ex Bridget Moynahan will also get in front of the cameras that day. Looking good for BMAs
Boston girl group Jada spent Thursday night getting the star treatment from Gia Ventola at her couture shop in Peabody. The ladies - Elle Wine, April Forrest, Lauren O'Keefe, and Jacyn Tremblay - were getting ready for their big night at the Boston Music Awards tomorrow at the Roxy. They're nominated for outstanding pop/RB act of the year. Wanted: A good man
Gentlemen: be warned. "Bachelorette" star DeAnna Pappas will be partying around New England this weekend, and she's looking for love . . . again. Pappas, who was famously dumped by Brad Womack on "The Bachelor" and recently imposed the same heartache on her reality fiancee Jesse Csincsak, assured us she's still pining for marriage, and not just because she's cohosting Lifetime's "Get Married" come January. "I still very much want to be in love, I still want to have a family, I still want to be married," she said. Pappas said she's tired of hashing over why she and her snowboarding beau broke up, simply adding "the longer we spent together, I realized we are two completely different people." Pappas planned to party at Shrine at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods last night, where DJ AM was scheduled to spin, and at The Estate tonight. Keeping up with Curt
Curt Schilling seems to be enjoying his visit with troops in the Persian Gulf region, as evidenced by all the smiling photos sent our way by the USO, his tour sponsor. Schilling has been hanging out and talking baseball with soldiers - one of whom even let the Sox pitcher hold his machine gun. Meanwhile, wife Shonda is gearing up for her Bubbles Bites event Wednesday at the Omni Parker House. The dinner and auction benefit her SHADE Foundation, dedicated to educating people about sun damage and skin cancer. (Yes, Curt's scheduled to be back in time for the party.) "It's such a bad time to have a fund-raiser, with everything going on," Shonda admitted. "But this is somewhere you can relax." Names can be reached at names@globe.com or at 617-929-8253.
