Daughter: Falk is ill
A court document filed by Peter Falk's daughter says the Emmy-winning actor is suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Catherine Falk is seeking a court's approval for a conservatorship of her 81-year-old father, who she claims no longer recognizes people. A hearing has been scheduled for late January. Falk is familiar to most audiences as the star of the television series "Columbo."(AP)
Settlement reached
Documents show Dennis Quaid and his wife have agreed to a $750,000 settlement with a hospital that gave his newborn twins an overdose of blood thinner. A petition filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday shows the Quaids and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center have agreed on the parents' damages, but can still pursue claims for their children. The documents state Cedars-Sinai is not admitting wrongdoing as part of the settlement. (AP)
Oprah and HBO
Oprah Winfrey is ending a long-term relationship with ABC by taking her production company to HBO for a three-year deal to make movies, documentaries, and TV series. Kate Forte, head of Harpo Films, said yesterday that Winfrey's company wanted to make a more eclectic mix of programming than was available on broadcast TV. (AP)
'Charm School' lesson
Sharon Osbourne, wife of rocker Ozzy Osbourne, has been accused of coming to blows with a contestant on her reality television show about etiquette. Model Megan Hauserman, 29, who appeared on the VH1 show "Rock of Love: Charm School," filed a police report accusing Osbourne of pulling her hair on Saturday at a taping of the program after the two traded verbal insults, celebrity website TMZ.com said.
Acting against strike
Delivering a rebuke to the leadership of the Screen Actors Guild, more than 130 actors signed a letter urging their colleagues to reject a strike-authorization vote in January. "We don't think that an authorization can be looked at as merely a bargaining tool," said the letter, signed by "Desperate Housewives" actress Eva Longoria Parker, "Spider-Man" star Tobey Maguire, and others. "We do not believe in all good conscience that now is the time to be putting people out of work.(AP)
