Lance Armstrong's new baby was conceived naturally, a spokeswoman for his cancer foundation confirmed yesterday. Armstrong, who won the Tour de France seven consecutive years after overcoming testicular cancer, and his girl- friend, Anna Hansen, are expecting the baby in June. Armstrong (inset) had three children with his ex-wife Kristin using in vitro fertilization with sperm he had banked before undergoing chemotherapy. "Anna and I are thrilled to confirm that we are expecting in June and our families are ecstatic and grateful," Armstrong said in a statement released Tuesday. Three years after retiring following his last Tour de France win, Armstrong announced in September his return to competition and the Tour de France in 2009. (AP)
Crash survivors sue
A celebrity disc jockey who survived a fiery Learjet crash in South Carolina has sued several companies and the estates of the plane's pilots. Adam Goldstein, known as DJ AM, filed his complaint for negligence and breach of contract in Los Angeles Superior Court. Goldstein and punk rocker Travis Barker, who has also sued the companies, were the sole survivors of the Sept. 19 crash. Barker sued on behalf of the family of his bodyguard, Charles Still, and the widow of Barker's assistant, Chris Baker, filed her own lawsuit earlier this month. Goldstein and Barker were seriously burned escaping the plane. The pair plan to perform together again for the first time since the crash at an event in Los Angeles on New Year's Eve. They perform under the name TRVSDJAM. (AP)Cobain's guitar sold
A smashed guitar from the late grunge rocker Kurt Cobain has been sold to an unidentified private collector for $100,000. Helen Hall, a broker in England, says it's the second-highest known price for an item of Cobain memorabilia. The seller was punk rocker Sluggo of The Grannies and Hullabaloo. The sale was confirmed by Jacob McMurray, senior curator at the Experience Music Project in Seattle, where the taped-up Fender Mustang guitar in sunburst finish was displayed for a time. "It's a really cool-looking guitar because it's smashed and held together with duct tape and Kurt Cobain wrote on it," McMurray said. (AP)Bailout for museum
Trustees of the financially troubled Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles have accepted a bailout from billionaire Eli Broad worth as much as $30 million. The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation promised to match donations to the museum's endowment up to $15 million and to give $15 million over five years toward exhibitions, museum officials said. By accepting the Broads' financial lifeline, the museum obliged itself not to sell off any of its collection, to reject a merger proposed by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and to remain in its headquarters.
