In the bad old days, when the black and gold were cellar dwellers, the annual Boston Bruins Wives' Charity Carnival could be a chore. Not this year. The Bruins are the NHL's best team, so hockey diehards were out in force for yesterday's carnival benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Held at the TD Banknorth Garden, the festival featured a Rock Band 2 contest pitting fans versus players Mark Stuart (vocals), Blake Wheeler (drums), Milan Lucic (guitar), and Matt Lashoff (bass). (The B's band performed Pearl Jam's "Alive.") In addition, the Bruins boosters got to play P.J. Axelsson in ping-pong, David Krejci and Michael Ryder in knock hockey, or Dennis Wideman in Wii tennis. Others, including Zdeno Chara, Manny Fernandez, Phil Kessel, Marc Savard, and Tim Thomas signed autographs.
Just family and friends. . .
Veteran roots rocker
Dennis Brennan got hitched yesterday, and Boston's own man in black officiated. That's right, former J. Geils singer
Peter Wolf, who had a hit with "Love Stinks," performed his first wedding, marrying Brennan and longtime girlfriend
Diann Wilde before a crowd of familiar faces at Arlington's flora restaurant. The throng of well-wishers included Brennan's ace bandmates
Kevin Barry,
Billy Beard,
Duke Levine, and
Andrew Mazzone, the groom's songwriting son
Jake, Morphine's
Dana Colley, O Positive's
Dave Herlihy,
Asa Brebner,
Jimmy Ryan,
Jennifer Kimball,
David Johnston,
Sean Staples,
Andy Plaisted,
Rick Berlin,
Michael Dinallo,
and
Brian Templeton of the Radio Kings, bassist
Marty Ballou, producer
Tom Dube, bluesman
Johnny Mac, drummer
Dave Mattacks,
Sarah Borges's manager
Jeannie Smith, bookdealer
Jon Strymish, and Tone-Cool Records CEO
Richard "Rosy" Rosenblatt. Quipped Mazzone: "If something should happen to the people in this room today, there'll be a lot of open gigs around town."
Dinner dates
If
Gisele Bundchen has an engagement ring, she wasn't wearing it at Bricco the other night. Bundchen and her beau
Tom Brady dined discreetly at the North End restaurant Friday with No. 12's teammate
Larry Izzo and his date . . . Not so subtle was Celts captain
Paul Pierce, who grabbed dinner at Sonsie over the weekend and feasted with the plain folks in the restaurant's dining room.
