Rebecca Romijn and husband Jerry O'Connell have welcomed twin girls into the world.

US radio presenter Howard Stern - a close friend of the couple - announced the 'Ugly Betty' actress had given birth to her daughters on his show yesterday morning (05.01.09).

Rebecca delivered the tots on December 28 and the happy couple have named them Dolly Rebecca Rose and Charlie Tamara Tulip.

The star's representative Lewis Kay said: "Mother, father and both girls are all home and doing well."

Rebecca revealed months before the birth she intended to name one of her girls Dolly, as a tribute to country music legend Dolly Parton.

She said: "I have been a Dolly fan all of my life. She is a wonderful woman. I really connect with her music and I can't think of a better role model for my children."

Jerry has been outspoken about his excitement about becoming a father, and has previously admitted he will be very protective of the new additions to his family.

He said last year: "Just the fact that they're girls, you know? I don't want them to date. They're only allowed to date men who run countries. They're only allowed to date men who are heir to the throne or are currently running a nation."
