Clay Aiken is no fan of Adam Lambert. The "American Idol" also-ran has blasted this season's runner-up on his website, mocking Lambert's rendition of "Ring of Fire" as "contrived," "awful," and "slightly frightening." Aiken also aimed his vitriol on "Idol" itself. He said the series has focused on "slick productions and polished contestants" rather than raw talent. Aiken lost out to Ruben Studdard in 2003. (AP)

Tax charges dropped
Federal prosecutors dropped the remaining tax evasion conspiracy charge against two-time Indianapolis 500 champion Helio Castroneves and his sister yesterday, clearing the Brazilian driver of all the charges that once threatened his career. Castroneves, 34, and his sister Katiucia, 35, were acquitted of other tax evasion charges by a jury April 17. His tax lawyer, Alan Miller, also was cleared of wrongdoing. The jury failed to agree on the conspiracy charge, resulting in a mistrial on that count. Yesterday prosecutors said they have decided not to pursue a retrial on that charge. (AP)
