So Katie Holmes thinks she can dance - and in few weeks, she’ll display her moves before a discriminating audience. Nigel Lythgoe, who is the producer of Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance,’’ confirms the 30-year-old actress will perform for the reality contest’s 100th episode, airing July 23. Holmes will pay homage to Judy Garland. In a taped number, she’ll sing and dance to the Garland classic “Get Happy.’’ Holmes’s TV cameo is meant to promote the new foundation she launched with Lythgoe and “Dancing With the Stars’’ judge Carrie Ann Inaba. The nonprofit, called Dizzy Feet, aims to support dance education and programs, and talented dancers who can’t afford training. (AP)
Pathologist on Carradine death
The medical examiner who oversaw a private autopsy on David Carradine said on Wednesday that the “Kung Fu’’ star died from asphyxiation and the way the actor’s body was bound allowed him to rule out suicide. Carradine was found hanging in the closet of his Bangkok hotel suite on June 4 and his family hired New York-based forensic pathologist Michael Baden to conduct a follow-up death investigation to the one handled by Thai authorities. (Reuters)Website goes to Leno
Comedian and talk show host Jay Leno has won a cybersquatting case against a Texas man found by a UN agency to have misused the domain name thejaylenoshow.com to direct Internet users to a real estate website. In a ruling issued yesterday, the World Intellectual Property Organization said Leno had common law trademark rights to his name after a 30-year career in entertainment, even though Guadalupe Zambrano registered the site in 2004. The ruling orders the domain name transferred within 10 days to Leno, who will be hosting a new program called “The Jay Leno Show’’ on NBC in September after his 17-year run at “The Tonight Show’’ ended in May. (Reuters)A new show for Slater?
Christian Slater is in negotiations to star in ABC’s new series “The Forgotten.’’ From producer Jerry Bruckheimer, the show is a mystery drama revolving around a group of amateur detectives led by a former cop (Slater). The 11-year-old daughter of Slater’s character was kidnapped three years before the group was formed. Slater would replace British actor Rupert Penry-Jones, who played the lead in the pilot. Another role, that of a female member of the squad, is being recast. “Forgotten,’’ set to launch Sept. 22, would mark Slater’s second turn as a TV leading man after last year’s short-lived NBC spy drama “My Own Worst Enemy.’’ (AP)© Copyright 2009 Globe Newspaper Company.
