As we told you yesterday, Tom Brady will appear on the Aug. 9 episode of “Entourage,’’ the hit HBO show produced by hometowner Mark Wahlberg. HBO was nice enough to send us a still of Brady’s scene, in which the Pats QB and Wahlberg both appear as themselves in a charity golf tournament. Poor Wahlberg. Next to the towering Brady and “Entourage’’ star Adrian Grenier, Mark comes up a little short, doesn’t he?
‘Prophecy’ fulfilled
As we all know, it pays to write fantasy books for tweens and teens (just ask
Stephenie Meyer, who’s responsible for “Twilight’’). That means New York author
Michelle Zink, a mother of four, may be in the money when her novel “Prophecy of the Sisters’’ is released next month by Little, Brown. Zink, whose book is about a young woman trying to escape a family curse, has already been given a celebrity boost from Boston actress
Eliza Dushku, of “Dollhouse’’ and “Buffy the Vampire’’ fame. Dushku recorded the audio version of “Prophecy,’’ which will be released on Aug 1. This isn’t the first time Dushku has done a book-on-tape. Just a few years ago, she recorded author
Lauren Weisberger’s follow-up to “The Devil Wears Prada,’’ “Everyone Worth Knowing.’’
Damon on wheels?
We recently told you that
Matt Damon and
Jake Gyllenhaal were in the running to play
Lance Armstrong in a biopic based on the cyclist’s book “It’s Not About the Bike.’’ Now it seems that
Ben Stiller has weighed in on the casting - and his vote goes to Damon. Stiller, who saw Armstrong on Monday before the third stage of the Tour de France, told a Reuters reporter, of the Armstrong movie, “Damon would be good, I think.’’ Quite an endorsement, right? Damon will play another hero athlete, rugby star
Francois Pienaar, in
Clint Eastwood’s film “Invictus’’ later this year.
Allen joins Jabberwocky
Celts star
Ray Allen was the special guest at Camp Jabberwocky’s beach cookout on Monday night. The camp, which is in Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard, is for children with special needs. The Jabberwocky kids have Celtics co-owner
Wyc Grousbeck’s daughter
Kelsey to thank for the visit. She invited Allen to the festivities.
Sonsie to the stars
Newbury Street restaurant Sonsie had a good 24 hours of serving familiar faces.
Nomar Garciaparra and his wife,
Mia Hamm, ate pizzas there on Monday night, and actor
Michael Chiklis stopped by yesterday for lunch.
Latest role is true camp
Character actor
Willie Garson has played Stanford Blatch in “Sex and the City,’’
Jimmy Fallon’s friend in “Fever Pitch,’’ and a number of other tiny-but-memorable roles in movies and shows, from “Monk’’ to “Medium.’’ This week, Garson plays a camp counselor - and if you ask him, he’s pretty good at it.
“Today was dodgeball. Then we had a waterfront drill to keep everyone on their toes,’’ said Garson, who’s spending the week with his 8-year-old son, Nathen, and volunteering at the Barton Center for Diabetes Education’s summer camps in North Oxford. Garson developed a relationship with the Barton Center after attending a diabetes charity event a few years ago. Garson doesn’t have the disease - neither does his son - but the actor wants to teach his youngster about volunteerism. The Garsons will take part in all camp activities this week, including the chores. For the record, Garson is no stranger to camp life. He attended Camp Wekeela in Maine for 11 years.
“Seven years as a camper, four as a counselor,’’ he said, proudly.
Garson told us that even though the campers in his cabin are preteens, they’re familiar with his work. Most 12-year-olds have heard of “Sex and the City,’’ and some of the kids have grown-up television habits. “You’d be surprised by what kids watch,’’ Garson told us, laughing. “They’re like, ‘You were on ‘CSI,’ and I’m like, ‘Why are you watching that?’ ’’ Garson says that despite his role in “Fever Pitch,’’ he’s not a Boston regular, although he does visit his sister, who lives in Mattapoisett. Garson’s next project is “White Collar,’’ a USA crime show costarring hot guy Matthew Bomer and Tiffani Thiessen. Garson also promises he and Sarah Jessica Parker and company will start filming the next “Sex and the City’’ later this year.
On the sidelines
Did the Boston Breakers give Mayor
Tom Menino the boot? Apparently not. Even though hizzoner was spotted on Newbury Street yesterday wearing a walking cast - just a day after he hung out with Boston Breakers star
Alli Lipsher and
Kasey Moore to kick off the 8th annual Boston Neighborhood Soccer League - the mayor’s office says the boot and the soccer are unrelated. Menino’s been nursing a minor pain with the cast for a while now, according to a spokesman. The Breakers confirm Menino never even put his foot to a ball.
Reeling in Big Fish
Dropkick Murphys guy
Ken Casey wants to make sure that his Back Bay bar McGreevy’s isn’t just a Red Sox bar. He wants it to be about the music, too. The Celt-punk bandleader’s been hosting a number of musical acts for pre-parties before local shows. Last night, it was members of the California ska band Reel Big Fish, who stopped by before their gig at the House of Blues.
'SNL' reunion continues to grow
The latest add-on to the cast of the
Adam Sandler comedy “Grown Ups’’ is
Tim Meadows, which isn’t surprising. The movie, which has been filming around Essex (but will be set in Connecticut), features a list of “Saturday Night Live’’ alums, including
Maya Rudolph,
Chris Rock,
David Spade,
Norm Macdonald,
Rob Schneider, and
Colin Quinn. Appropriately, the film is about old friends having a reunion.
