It’s love for sure for Victoria Rowell, 50, the former soap star who spent many afternoons dancing at the Cambridge School of Ballet. Rowell’s wedding to Atlanta artist Radcliffe Bailey was the subject of a flattering feature in The New York Times over the weekend. The actress, who was walked down the aisle by actor Samuel L. Jackson, looked “striking in a pale sunlight-yellow Jane Wilson-Marquis gown, like a Degas dancer,’’ during the ceremony at the Dublin Community Church in Dublin, N.H. Born to a schizophrenic mom in Portland, Maine, Rowell spent her childhood in foster care. She tells the affecting story in her memoir, “The Women Who Raised Me.’’ The actress has a daughter from her first marriage and a son from her relationship with jazz great Wynton Marsalis.
Tierney to have surgery
Actress
Maura Tierney said yesterday she is set to undergo surgery to remove a breast tumor. “In an effort to guard my privacy, it seems that the wording of NBC’s press release has unfortunately caused some confusion and undue alarm about my health,’’ said Tierney, 44, whose dad is former Boston city councilor
Joseph Tierney. In the statement, Tierney, who attended Notre Dame Academy in Hingham, went on to explain NBC’s decision to delay production of her new show “Parenthood.’’ “I have discovered a tumor in my breast which requires surgery. I will not know either my exact diagnosis or course of treatment until that surgery is performed. My doctors have all assured me this is a very treatable condition.’’ The show was scheduled to premiere Sept. 23.
Bratton’s house for sale
Bill Bratton, the former Boston police commissioner who’s now LA’s top cop, is selling his house in the City of Angels. But that doesn’t mean that Bratton, who was also police commissioner in New York, is on the move again. The Los Angeles Times reports that Bratton and wife
Rikki Klieman are selling their four-bedroom house in Los Feliz for $1.875 million - they paid $1.2 million in 2003 - and plan to buy another house in the area. Last month,
Queen Elizabeth II announced that the Boston native will receive the honorary title of Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
Tyler still on the mend
Whatever’s ailing
Steven Tyler, it’s not getting any better, at least not enough to allow Aerosmith to resume its summer tour. The band, which began postponing concerts a few weeks ago, called off shows Saturday and last night in Florida. Drummer
Joey Kramer told Philly radio host
Danny Bonaduce yesterday that Tyler tore a quadricep. Guitarist
Joe Perry said on Twitter that the shows would be rescheduled for October, telling fans: “Sorry for the let down. Better Steven recovers fully than halfway n strains his leg again.’’ In the meantime, Perry isn’t just sitting on his hands. He and wife
Billie joined 85 other divers over the weekend, scooping up trash during a reef cleanup in the Gulf of Mexico.
Her crowning glory
Congrats to
Amanda Lynn Teresa Kelly , 23, the Braintree native who was crowned Miss Massachusetts 2009 over the weekend. Kelly, a 2008 Brandeis grad, was first runner-up last year. First runner-up this year was
Kera Street, 22, a grad student at Harvard. Second runner-up was
Cherise Marie Leclerc, 20, of Hampden, a junior at UMass.
Star sightings
Between the schlumpy T-shirt and the baseball cap, actor
Brendan Fraser is looking like everyone else these days. Fraser is in town shooting “Furry Vengeance’’ with
Brooke Shields,
Matt Prokop, and
Dick Van Dyke. . . . “Grown Ups’’ guys
David Spade and
Colin Quinn stopped into Sonsie over the weekend, chowing on chef
Bill Poirier’s chopped salad with egg, croutons, grilled bacon, tomatoes, and Old Chatham camembert cheese. (Costar
Tim Meadows dropped by to say hello.) . . . “Enchanted’’ star
Amy Adams dined at Legal Sea Foods in Burlington the other night. The actress is in town to shoot “The Fighter’’ with
Mark Wahlberg and
Christian Bale.
Paradiso Girls ready to spice things up
“I’m the French one, with the blond short hair,’’ says
Aria Paradiso of Paradiso Girls, a new girl group that has ambitions of becoming the next big thing. She hasn’t quite mastered English yet, but on the phone from LA yesterday, Aria was clearly excited. “We play an amazing show last night. The people was on fire,’’ she said. “I’m very excited about the reaction of everyone. There have been comparisons to Spice Girls.’’ You can judge for yourself when Paradiso Girls - Aria,
Chelsea,
Kelly,
Lauren, and
Shar - perform a few tunes tomorrow at
Ed Kane’s Marina Bay Beach Club. (They’re at Shrine at MGM Grand at Foxwoods tonight.) The gals are global - they’re from Paris, Barbados, England, Philippines, and the United States - and are getting a hand from such heavyweights as
Cee-Lo and
will.i.am. “Oh my gosh, we are having fun,’’ said Aria. “I try so bad to lose my accent, but I can’t. I also want to act, but I don’t have to be stuck always playing the foreign girl.’’
A pantheon of pretenders
Who were those impostors walking around the Financial District yesterday? Revolution Rock Bar put a few pretenders on the street to promote its lunch service.
Jared Gamens was
Gene Simmons,
Leo Rusinov channeled
Elvis, and
Alexandra Taylor did her best
Debbie Harry. We’re pleased to report no one was fooled. . . . “The Shield’’ star
Michael Chiklis had lunch on the patio at Charley’s on Newbury Street yesterday.
Finder’s free
Amazon.com is a mixed blessing for Boston author
Joseph Finder. The good news: His book “Paranoia’’ has been ranked No. 1 at the Amazon Kindle store for the past few weeks. (Eat your heart out
Glenn Beck.) The bad news: The book is free. Turns out Amazon is offering it for free in advance of Finder’s new book, “Vanished,’’ which comes out Aug. 18. Says Finder: “Free seems to be an appealing price point.’’ Indeed.
