If you thought you saw a hot guy who looked like Hugh Dancy at the Sevens on Beacon Hill on Tuesday, you were right - it was Dancy. The “Confessions of a Shopaholic’’ heartthrob, who’s engaged to Claire Danes, stopped by the bar during a two-day Boston visit to promote his new movie, “Adam,’’ which is about a man with Asperger’s syndrome who falls for his neighbor. During the short Hub visit, Dancy managed to take a quick walk around town, followed by a Union Oyster House dinner with his “Adam’’ costar Rose Byrne (the beautiful brunette on “Damages’’) and “Adam’’ writer-director Max Mayer. The trio went on to screen their movie at the Loews Boston Common for an audience that included members of the Asperger’s Association of New England. Mayer told us after the screening that he was nervous about showing the film to the association, specifically because one of the symptoms of the social disorder can be extreme honesty. He figured if the audience wasn’t happy with the film, they’d tell him to his face - and probably not politely. Luckily for Mayer, the movie was well-received. “I was a little nervous about it, then really gratified.’’
Perry’s wife says Tyler going solo
Is Aerosmith coming apart again?
Joe Perry’s wife confirmed via Twitter something that had been rumored for a while:
Steven Tyler has sacked the band’s longtime manager and signed a separate deal. “Steven has new management. We n the Band still have the honorable
Howard Kaufman/
Trudy Green,’’ wrote
Billie Perry. Tyler, who’s been laid up with a leg injury since June 28, was expected to be back onstage last night in Atlanta. It’s not clear why the 61-year-old singer would leave HK Management and sign his own deal with Union Entertainment Group. (The company’s clients include Nickelback, Hinder, and
Kevin Costner’s band, Modern West.) Reps for the band didn’t return e-mails yesterday.
Wahlberg ripped for the ring
Finally,
Mark Wahlberg can put those impressive pipes to work. The Dorchester actor appears ripped as ever on the set of his new film, “The Fighter,’’ which started shooting this week in LA and Lowell. A lifelong fight fan, Wahlberg plays boxer
“Irish’’ Micky Ward in the movie, which costars
Christian Bale,
Melissa Leo, and
Amy Adams. (See the “MW’’ on Wahlberg’s boxing trunks.) Bale plays Ward’s half-brother
Dickie Eklund, who was also a boxer and famously fought
Sugar Ray Leonard in Boston in 1978. Seems Leonard will make a cameo in the film since he was spied on the set in LA this week
Damon launches water venture
Matt Damon has launched a new initiative to provide safe water to some of the world’s poorest countries. The Cambridge-bred actor announced the creation of
Water.org, whose goal is to improve access to clean water for nearly 890 million people now at risk of disease. Damon has been an advocate of safe-water issues for several years, and cofounded the charity H2O Africa. The new venture is a partnership with charity WaterPartners. Said Damon: “Every 15 seconds, a child in the developing world dies from water-related disease. After visiting project sites in Africa and Asia, I’ve seen the problem and the impact of safe water.’’
Ringing endorsement
Drake Bell (inset) is in town, which is a very big deal if you’re a 7- to 13-year-old. Bell - who’s a pal of
Amanda Bynes and starred on the Nickelodeon show “Drake & Josh’’ - stopped by the Cape Cod Mall yesterday to meet with fans before his show at the Cape Cod Melody Tent. About 500 Bell supporters showed up for the event, some of whom arrived at 6 a.m. If you would like to give your own kid the experience of seeing Bell in person, he’ll be at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree from 2 to 3 p.m. today before his show at the South Shore Music Circus. For obvious reasons, we recommend getting there early. A note to grown-ups: You might actually enjoy seeing Bell perform. He played the young
John Cusack in “High Fidelity,’’ and was taught to play guitar by
Roger Daltrey of the Who. Not so bad, right?
Sunny day
It’s not often that juju music pioneer
King Sunny Ade performs in the United States, which may explain why the master musician’s outdoor show at the MFA attracted a standing-room-only crowd last night.
Around town
Stone Temple Pilot brothers
Robert and
Dean DeLeo had dinner with three friends at Legal Sea Foods in Park Square the other night. . . . Sox skipper
Terry Francona relaxed during the All-Star break, enjoying a meal at Mare in the North End.
All-Star partiers
Josh Fink, CEO of Boston-based Nokona Brands, was in his Back Bay office early yesterday even though he’d hosted an All-Star Game after-party in St. Louis the night before. Fink and his friends, Cards pitcher
Ryan Franklin and
Darryl “DMC’’ McDaniels, threw the party at EXO Ultra Lounge in St. Louis. Nokona is a licensed dealer of luxe MLB-embossed accessories, handbags, and luggage.
Anniversary trip
Congrats to
Bob Sage, brother of
Marilyn Reisman and founder of the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Back Bay Hilton, who just celebrated his 60th anniversary with wife
Phyllis. The couple took their clan, including son
Bill Sage, daughter
Margie Muroff, and daughter
Jane Rosenthal, to Bermuda to celebrate.
Film fest treat
Anyone who’s on the fence about attending the Woods Hole Film Festival later this month should know that
Michelle Monaghan will be there. The “Gone Baby Gone’’ and “Eagle Eye’’ actress will be on hand to show her movie “Trucker,’’ in which she stars as - you guessed it - a trucker. That one screens on July 29.
