The Beastie Boys announced yesterday they are canceling their tour and postponing the release of a new album because one of their members has cancer. In an upbeat video on the rap group’s website, Adam “MCA’’ Yauch said he has a “very treatable’’ cancerous tumor in his salivary gland and a nearby lymph node. Yauch, 43, said he will likely undergo surgery next week, followed by radiation. (AP)
Brown apologizes
Chris Brown has publicly apologized for beating Rihanna in February. The singer released a two-minute video on his website yesterday apologizing to fans and saying he is sad and ashamed of his conduct. He also says that he has repeatedly apologized to Rihanna. Brown pleaded guilty to an assault charge last month and faces sentencing Aug. 5. (AP)Book deal for Prejean
The former Miss California who was stripped of her title last month has a book deal. Conservative book house Regnery Publishing said yesterday it will publish a memoir by Carrie Prejean called “Still Standing.’’ Prejean has said she believes her crown was taken because she said she opposed gay marriage. California pageant executive director Keith Lewis has said Prejean was skipping Miss California USA events while speaking out against gay marriage at unsanctioned appearances. (AP)Ex-leader
