Jennifer Lopez's husband has bought a stake in American football team the Miami Dolphins.

Latin singer Marc Anthony has become a minority owner of the National Football League (NFL) club, which was almost entirely bought out by New York entrepreneur Stephen Ross in January for $1 billion.

Speaking at the announcement of his investment Marc, 40, joked: "It would have probably been cheaper just to buy season tickets!"

He added: "I'm a huge sports fan. These opportunities don't come around too often.

"It's quite an honour and a privilege to be able to sit here today saying that I'm a part-owner of an NFL team."

It is not known how much money Marc has invested into the team.

Marc - who has sold over 10 million records and is the highest selling salsa artist of all time - joins singers Jimmy Buffett and Gloria Estefan and her husband Emilio as part owners of the club.

Majority stake holder Stephen revealed how Marc became involved in the team.

He said: "We spoke for quite a while about his vision for the team and it was just intoxicating.

"Marc's a pretty bright guy and he has a lot of interesting ideas. We're trying to do something different and he was thinking outside the box. I thought it would be a great fit and fun to do something."
