Jackson estate seeks allowance for children

Attorneys handling Michael Jackson’s estate have asked a judge to approve an allowance for the singer’s three children and his mother. The request came yesterday from attorneys for two men who are serving as temporary executors of Jackson’s estate. Paul Gordon Hoffman, representing the co-executors, said a judge will consider the requests Aug. 3. A similar request was brought for the singer’s mother, Katherine Jackson, which will also be taken up at next month’s hearing. (AP)

Rapper ordered to pay
A judge yesterday ordered rapper Nas to pay his soon-to-be-ex-wife, Kelis, nearly $44,000 in monthly support for the near future, a day after the singer gave birth to the divorcing couple’s baby boy. Kelis, 29, gave birth to the boy, named Knight, at a New York hospital Wednesday night. She filed for divorce from the rapper in April. (AP)

Singer to rest voice
The country duo Sugarland will miss three more concerts after a doctor told singer Jennifer Nettles to rest her voice for a week. Mercury Records said yesterday that Nettles has strained and overused her vocal cords because of “health issues’’ she has been battling since January. (AP)

Jolie visits refugees
Angelina Jolie visited a settlement for displaced Iraqis in northwest Baghdad yesterday in her role as a UN goodwill ambassador. The actor met four families whose members said their children could not go to school and they could not afford to pay for medical treatment, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said.
