Pats poster boy Tom Brady looks mighty beefcake on the cover of the new Details magazine, which comes out next week. But don’t let his handsome good looks fool you. The normally circumspect signal caller is downright philosophical in the accompanying article.

Writer Jonathan Miles met with Brady in New York this summer, and the QB talked about everything from football and fashion to his famous wife and fatherhood. Asked, for instance, about his complicated personal life - he has a son with Bridget Moynahan but is married to Gisele Bundchen - Brady has a lot to say.

“That’s not how you envisioned your life, that’s not how you envisioned having children, but it happens. . . . Life is not living in the suburbs with a white picket fence. That’s not life,’’ he insists. “Somehow our American culture has made it out that that’s what life needs to be and that if it’s not that, it’s all screwed up. It’s not. You go through life and you try the best you can.’’

It might surprise you to know Brady is mostly unbothered by the paparazzi, even when they pester him with inane questions and or snap him as his supermodel sweetheart is feeding him a morsel of food.

“It’s entertaining,’’ he says. “I don’t take myself very seriously. I’m not a person who defends myself very often. I kind of let my actions speak for me. So when people criticize me, and they should - that’s what you do as an athlete. You go out there, and that’s what happens. You deal with it and laugh with it and hope they sell a lot of newspapers. Because there’s going to be the next article the next day, and the next article the next day.’’

Almost as famous for his fashion sense as his skills on the football field, the Super Bowl champ says style is important to him.

“Maybe my creativity comes out a little when I dress,’’ he says. “I’m not a very creative person, you know? I’m not really an art person. I’m not a great reader or writer or artist or musician. Hopefully I encourage my teammates, a little bit, to get their wives and girlfriends excited when they walk through the door.’’

Bundchen was present for at least part of the interview, and chimes in as Brady talks about their first meeting, on a blind date at a restaurant in New York that’s now closed. “This friend told me he knew a girl version of me,’’ says the QB. To which Gisele replies, “And he said to me he’d found a boy version of me.’’

If Bundchen was pregnant at the time of the interview, Brady doesn’t mention it. But he does talk about his desire to have a big family, something Bundchen has also said in the past.

“I want a lot of kids,’’ he says. “I’d love four or five. We’ll see. It’s not always my decision.’’

Finally, talking about his life - the fame, the fortune, the glamorous wife, the three Super Bowl trophies - Brady sounds remarkably unfazed.

“We’re all here, man, we’re all sharing the same air. Everyone wants to look at [me] and say, ‘Well, if I had that, I’d really be happy.’ But happiness is really about how you feel yourself and if you’re satisfied with yourself. I wish everybody happiness, man. And fulfillment in life. You don’t need to play football to have that. At least I don’t think that’s what was going though the creator’s mind when we were created.’’

Morgan makes a few waves
“30 Rock’’ star Tracy Morgan - who got his first Emmy nomination and filed for divorce from his wife of 23 years in the same week - was spotted celebrating (the Emmy nomination, not the divorce) at the Blue Wave Bar & Lounge on Saturday night with his girlfriend, Tanisha. Witnesses tell us that at some point during the night, a bar-goer tried to start a fight with Morgan, but the comedian wasn’t interested in causing problems. We’re also told that Morgan showed up at the Ritz earlier that day in a yellow Lamborghini. He said he planned to drive the car to Newport for his show there on Sunday.

Jake finishes strong
Jake Gyllenhaal was among the 1,500 or so runners who hoofed it at the Chilmark Road Race on Martha’s Vineyard over the weekend. The 5K race along scenic Middle Road is exceptionally hilly, but that didn’t seem to bother the “Brokeback Mountain’’ actor, who’s doubtless learned a thing or two about endurance from his buddy Lance Armstrong. There was no sign of Gyllenhaal’s sweetheart, Reese Witherspoon, at the finish line, but he did stop to say hello to fellow runners Doug Liman, director of “The Bourne Identity,’’ and Tamara Buchwald, daughter-in-law of the late Art Buchwald. (Tamara had a tiny role in Liman’s movie “Jumper.’’)

JoJo still working, despite label issues
JoJo, the Foxborough-bred pop star who plans to attend Northeastern University this fall, was in Los Angeles the other night for the Teen Choice Awards. According to the singer’s MySpace page, she’s been on the West Coast for a while, writing songs for other artists. “Things out on the left coast are going really well and I am so happy to be out here. I’m writing songs to place on other recording artists and vibing with some really talented producers,’’ she wrote on the page. JoJo also discloses on MySpace that she’s still having problems with her record label, which is why she hasn’t put out new music in a while. “Its not as simple as just ‘going to another label’ or ‘releasing a single yourself,’ ’’ she says, adding that “contracts and legal obligations are CRAAYYYZZZZYYYYY.’’ Well said.

Coleman stays on message
Jordan Coleman, who voices Tyrone the Moose on Nickelodeon’s “The Backyardigans,’’ has been in Massachusetts for the past few days showing off his movie “Say It Loud!,’’ which aims to keep kids in school. The 13-year-old (yes, he’s only 13 and he’s made a movie) screened the film on Martha’s Vineyard over the weekend and then again yesterday for youngsters at Northeastern University’s John D. O’Bryant African-American Institute. The movie features interviews with celebs such as Ludacris, Kobe Bryant, and Newark Mayor Cory Booker.

End credits
"Was [divorce] a product of the show? I feel like it would have happened anyway - cameras on or cameras off." -- Kate Gosselin, talking to NBC's "Today" yesterday about her reality show, "Jon & Kate Plus 8."
