Those rampant rumors notwithstanding, Chelsea Clinton is not - repeat not - getting married on Martha’s Vineyard this weekend. That’s the emphatic word from Matthew McKenna, spokesman for former president Bill Clinton, who’s none too happy about having to knock down tabloid reports about the former first daughter’s wedding plans. All summer, there have been whispers on the island that Chelsea and her boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky are getting hitched at the Chilmark home of actors Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen. It wasn’t true three months ago, and it’s not true now, says McKenna. Reached at his home in Montana yesterday, McKenna said he and Philippe Reines, a senior adviser to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, will even bet on it. McKenna said he and Reines are each willing to wager our source $500 that Chelsea does not get married on Martha’s Vineyard this summer. “If we’re wrong, we’ll make Chelsea pay the $1,000,’’ he said. According to their schedules, the Clintons will be far from the Vineyard this weekend. The former first spouses are slated to spend four days in Bermuda. (That could change, however, considering that Hurricane Bill is headed that way.) Of course, even without a wedding involving a former occupant of the White House, it’s about to get very busy on Martha’s Vineyard. President Barack Obama arrives Sunday for a week of R&R with family and, doubtless, some of his famous friends.
Hatch back in jail
“Survivor’’ winner
Richard Hatch can’t stay out of the clink. Hatch, who’d been serving the remainder of his prison term for tax evasion on home confinement in Newport, R.I., was hauled back to jail Tuesday after doing interviews aired on WPRO-AM, NBC’s “Today’’ show, and WJAR-TV. In the interviews, Hatch said the judge in his tax evasion case discriminated against him because he is gay. He also accused the prosecutor of misconduct. The federal Bureau of Prisons wouldn’t comment on Hatch’s case yesterday, but spokeswoman
Traci Billingsley told the AP that prisoners on home confinement can’t grant interviews without permission. She said approval takes a few days. WPRO host
John DePetro said the radio station didn’t get the permission because Hatch called in twice on his own.
Bars, beauties, Beatles
English actor
Jim Sturgess has fond memories of Boston. Actually, he has fond memories of the bars on Boylston Street. “That’s what I remember most,’’ admits Sturgess, who spent a few months here shooting “21.’’ The actor was back in town this week to promote his new movie “Fifty Dead Men Walking,’’ based on the story of
Martin McGartland, a British agent who posed as an IRA soldier in Belfast. (Sturgess plays McGartland, who’s still so hated in some quarters that he’s gone underground.) “I never met him and that was my decision,’’ he says. “His book was a great point of reference, but it was important to view his story from an outside point of view.’’ Though Sturgess has a slim resume at the tender age of 28, he’s worked with a bevy of beautiful leading ladies, including
Natalie Portman,
Scarlett Johansson,
Kate Bosworth, and
Rose McGowan. “They’re all very talented actresses first and foremost,’’ he says, shyly. “But, yes, they’re also beautiful.’’ Sturgess’s star turn came in Newton native
Julie Taymor’s Beatles-based “Across the Universe.’’ Did Sir
Paul McCartney see the film? “Him and Julie watched it together,’’ said Sturgess. “She asked him what he didn’t like about it, and he said, ‘What’s not to like?’ ’’
Gosselin on the town
Jon Gosselin doesn’t seem to mind that TLC, which airs “Jon & Kate Plus 8,’’ is mad at him.
TMZ.com reported yesterday that the network has sent Gosselin a letter warning him that his drinking and bar-hopping is a violation of the morals clause in his contract. How did Gosselin respond? He went bar-hopping, of course. Tuesday night, we’re told, Gosselin showed up at Shrine, the club at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods that’s owned by
Ed and
Joe Kane. And he’s coming back again Saturday night. “He had a great time,’’ said someone who was there. Gosselin may be unbothered by the letter because he’s in talks to appear in another reality show called “Divorced Dad’s Club,’’ about famous divorced fathers.
‘Dirty Water’ in Lowell
The crew from “Dirty Water TV,’’ including
Christian Fauria and
Billy Fairweather, paid a visit to “The Fighter’’ set in Lowell this week.
Mark Wahlberg, who plays brawler
“Irish’’ Micky Ward in the film, gave the gang a behind-the-scenes tour, and dished a little about “Entourage,’’ the HBO series he executive produces.
‘Twilight’ convention
Summit Entertainment, the movie company responsible for “Twilight’’ and its sequels, reports that it will run “Twilight’’ fan conventions in a number of cities - including Boston - over the next three years. (No word yet on when it will come here.) The conventions would bring at least a few stars to each city, which means we could get some up-close-and-personal time with Edward Cullen. In other “Twilight’’ news, Boston gal
Julia Jones has joined the cast of “Eclipse.’’ Jones, who has modeled for the Gap and Levis, will play Leah Clearwater. Perhaps Jones can convince
Robert Pattinson to trade his favorite Yankees cap for a Sox hat.
Yolanda’s good ‘Fortune’
When we heard “Wheel of Fortune’’ would be taping shows here in September, our first question was: Who will
Vanna White be wearing? OK, not really, but we do have the answer. The leggy letter-turner will be wearing clothes from Yolanda’s. In fact, on Sept. 1,
Yolanda Cellucci is hosting a special showing for the show’s producers at her Waltham fashion emporium, where she’ll present dress choices from such designers as
Faviana,
Stephen Yearick and
Giovanni.
