Last night, Tufts University’s Beelzebubs finished second place in NBC’s a cappella contest “The Sing-Off.’’ With typical good humor, true to their motto of “Fun Through Song,’’ the Bubs left the stage for the last time singing the Animals’ “We Gotta Get Out of This Place.’’

Earlier in the evening, the guys got to sing with judge and Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, as well as participate in an improvised vocal piece with Bobby McFerrin. The contest’s big prizes - $100,000 and a Sony Music recording contract - went to Nota, a six-man group from Puerto Rico. The show, with Newton filmmaker Sam Weisman as executive producer, attracted some celebrities. Spotted in the audience during the two-hour finale: Jack Black, Masi Oka, Peter Gallagher, and Josh Groban.

Next goal: marriage
Before taking on the Bruins in Ottawa, Senators center Mike Fisher dished to the Globe about proposing to his longtime girlfriend, country star Carrie Underwood. “We’re both obviously excited and very happy,’’ Fisher said. “Exciting times for sure.’’ Fisher and Underwood have been dating for about a year. The 29-year-old Fisher has 15 goals and 14 assists this season. Last month, when Underwood, 26, was asked by Ellen DeGeneres whether she had plans to move in with Fisher, Underwood responded, “The next guy I move in with will be my hubby, whoever that is.’’

Hail to the architect
Architect Paul Kuttner of Cambridge Seven Associates got a pat on the back the other night from former President Bill Clinton and Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe for the design of the US Marshals Museum. Clinton congratulated Kuttner (below) on his “terrific design’’ during the kickoff of the museum’s capital campaign. The museum honoring the country’s oldest law enforcement service will be in Fort Smith, Ark. Local Cambridge Seven works include the Liberty Hotel, Boston Children’s Museum, and the Hall at Patriot Place.

Wahlberg wows ’em
As you’ll read below, the New Kids on the Block performed a sold-out benefit show for Toys for Tots at the House of Blues on Sunday night. After the concert, New Kid Donnie Wahlberg kept the party going by performing some of his solo tunes at the Estate nightclub. Wahlberg sang “I Got It,’’ a song that features former Danity Kane singer Aubrey O’Day (whom Donnie was once rumored to be dating), the New Kids song “Click Click Click,’’ and another solo tune, “Rise N Grind.’’ Wahlberg’s appearance at the club brought out so many fans that the line went down the Alley and out onto Boylston Street. Not bad for a Sunday night after a snowstorm. The Estate after-party also benefited Toys for Tots.

Alarming distraction

If you were wondering why Channel 7’s 4 p.m. news didn’t start until 4:30 yesterday, it was because of a fire alarm. Chris Wayland, WHDH’s general manager, told us shortly after the delayed newscast was over that, “All is fine.’’ Good news.

Covering the bases

Kevin Youkilis is on the move, and we don’t just mean from first to third. The Sox infielder and his wife, Enza, were all over town yesterday, delivering presents and well-wishes to youngsters at agencies supported by Youk’s Hits for Kids charity. His first stop was the Italian Home for Children in JP and then Christopher’s Haven in Boston. Hits for Kids is devoted to the health, advocacy, and safety of children.

Quite a force

Celtics Tony Allen and Glen “Big Baby’’ Davis joined Police Commissioner Ed Davis and 160 kids from Allston-Brighton for the inaugural D-14 basketball tournament at the West End Boys & Girls Club in Brighton. The 6-foot 6-inch commish is as tall as some NBA players but admits he’s got no game.

Rondo on a roll
Celtics star Rajon Rondo joined winners of the Dunkin’ Donuts “Pick-Up on the Parquet’’ contest yesterday for some warm-up play and chat time at TD Garden. After preparing with Rondo, the contest winners were allowed to play pick-up games with pals. Above, Rondo plays keep-away with Carly Swartz and Gretchen Burgholver.
