Katie channels Jackie
With the prosthetic baby bump and the ’60s bob,
Katie Holmes is a reasonable facsimile of

Much needed surprise
Because it’s a tough time for the celebrated singer,
Carly Simon’s boyfriend arranged a surprise 65th birthday party for her the other day. Simon’s significant other, surgeon
Richard Koehler, threw a party for the “You’re So Vain’’ singer on a boat in Martha’s Vineyard, and a few dozen friends and family members were there. (Guests included
William Styron’s widow,
Rose, and
Larry David’s ex,
Laurie, who brought along her beau,
Bart Thorpe.) If Simon isn’t all smiles these days, it’s understandable. Her name recently surfaced in the fraud probe of
Kenneth I. Starr, the money manager whose celebrity clients included
Caroline Kennedy,
Martin Scorsese, and
Uma Thurman. Simon says she lost more than $15 million to Starr, who’s being held without bail, accused of running a
Bernie Madoff-like scheme. “I don’t like to admit how little I knew about anything financial,’’ Simon told the New York Observer. Comparing the charming alleged con artist to Jay Gatsby, Simon said “[Starr] is nothing like an
F. Scott Fitzgerald story. F. Scott Fitzgerald stories always had class, and where they [expletive] up, they did so by bathing in the fountain of the Plaza Hotel. They did not steal people’s money.’’
