Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, 58, whose buildings are praised for their careful use of natural materials and unexpected dashes of color, has won the 2011 Pritzker Architecture Prize, it was announced yesterday. He joins Frank Gehry, Tadao Ando, and Renzo Piano in receiving the honor that is often called architecture’s Nobel Prize. (AP)

Burns on to Vietnam

Having already done the Civil War and World War II, Ken Burns is working on a documentary about the Vietnam War. PBS said the 10- to 12-hour film by Burns and longtime partner Lynn Novick will be broadcast in 2016. (AP)

Young Taylor’s letters

More than 60 letters that Elizabeth Taylor wrote to William Pawley in 1949 will be auctioned in May by RR Auction of Amherst, N.H. The auction house bought the letters two years ago from Pawley, to whom Taylor was engaged before her first marriage. The actress died Wednesday at 79. (AP)

Rick Ross arrested

Rapper Rick Ross was arrested in Shreveport, La., on a marijuana possession charge. Ross, 35, whose real name is William Roberts II, was issued a misdemeanor summons and released. He was arrested Friday night after police responded to a complaint about the smell of marijuana at the Hilton Hotel. Police confiscated 1 gram of what investigators believed to be marijuana. (AP)
