Dorchester’s own Mark Wahlberg talked about James “Whitey’’ Bulger during Friday night’s kickoff party for the Mark Wahlberg Celebrity Golf Tournament. The night before he and some famous pals took over the Willowbend Country Club in Mashpee to raise money for the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation, the actor was at Tasty Burger near Fenway Park sharing his theories about how Whitey must have entertained himself while in hiding. Wahlberg believes the alleged Boston mobster watched “The Departed,’’ in which Jack Nicholson plays the Bulger-inspired character Frank Costello. “He probably had a pretty substantial DVD collection because I don’t think he wanted to go out all that much,’’ Wahlberg mused. “But I wonder how Jack Nicholson feels, especially because Santa Monica is so close to Riviera, where Jack plays golf all the time — and if [Bulger] wasn’t happy with the portrayal, he may have wanted to voice that to Jack.’’ “Big Love’’ actor Bill Paxton, also at the party, shared his own connection to Bulger. “I used to throw newspapers there. Right there! Literally right on 3d Street,’’ he said, referring to Bulger’s Santa Monica hideout. “It was a little more than 16 years ago. Those apartments, I used to throw the LA Times there.’’ . . . Paxton was spotted later during the weekend at the new nightlife spot Red Lantern. Wahlberg was seen on Sunday having egg whites and pancakes at Cafeteria. RACHEL ZARRELL
