Bookworms had good reason to attend the Boston Book Festival fund-raiser at the Middlesex Lounge in Cambridge last night. That’s where “Little Children’’ and “Election’’ writer Tom Perrotta gave a preview of his latest work, “The Leftovers.’’ Perrotta, whose novel will be released in September, was expected to be joined for the party by other bookish types including fantasy maven Kelly Link, Tufts professor and “Proust and the Squid’’ author Maryanne Wolfe, Tufts economics guy and author of “Something for Nothing’’ Michael Klein, and Boston Book Festival founder and director, Deborah Z. Porter. This year’s BBF is Oct. 15.
