Retired federal judge Nancy Gertner and ACLU legal director Steve Shapiro were the featured speakers at the ACLU of Massachusetts’s annual get-together on Martha’s Vineyard. Afterward, the gang gathered at the Chilmark home of Boston trial lawyer Alex MacDonald and his wife, Dr. Maureen Strafford. Guests included Margaret Marshall, former chief justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court; her husband, former New York Times reporter Anthony Lewis; and Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz. . . . Meanwhile, Amnesty International is having a 50th anniversary fund-raiser on the Rock next week, and the guest list includes singer/activist Harry Belafonte, designer Kenneth Cole, actress Mia Farrow, journalist Charlayne Hunter-Gault, Harvard prof Henry Louis Gates, DC power broker Vernon Jordan, and poet Rose Styron, widow of William Styron. The gathering will be held at the Vineyard home of “60 Minutes’’ correspondent Mike Wallace.
