Congrats to Gloucester Stage founder Israel Horovitz, who won “best in show’’ at France’s Festival d’Avignon for “Mis en Pieces,’’ a selection of unpublished short pieces by the celebrated playwright. Said Horovitz: “Compagnie des Alèas is a young Paris-based troupe I’ve been working with since they were students, much the way I worked with the Barefoot Theatre Company in New York, and, of course, the way I worked with Gloucester Stage 100 years ago.’’ Horovitz, whose son is Beastie Boy Adam “Ad-Rock’’ Horovitz, is back in Gloucester now. His Gloucester-based play “Fighting Over Beverley’’ closes the Gloucester Stage season, running from Aug. 25 to Sept. 11.
