Cooking up a surprise for Coppa’s chef

Surprise! That’s what a bunch of Boston’s best chefs exclaimed on the occasion of Jamie Bissonnette’s 34th birthday Wednesday. (His actual birthday is Saturday, when he’ll be standing over a hot stove.) Bissonnette, the chef at Coppa in the South End, was summoned to Eastern Standard, where unbeknownst to him a crowd of A-list cooks was gathered. The group included (above, from left) Evan Deluty of Stella, Dante’s Dante de Magistris, Ting Yen of Oishii, Jason Santos of Blue Inc., Bissonnette, Menton’s Colin Lynch, and Louis DiBiccari, formerly of Sel de la Terre. The chefs took over the ES patio and donned temporary tattoos in honor of the “most-tattooed chef in Boston.’’
