Roger Daltrey was in town yesterday to talk up his upcoming US tour of the Who’s “Tommy’’ - which comes to the Agganis Arena Sept. 17 - and to check in with voice doctor to the stars Steven Zeitels. Daltrey calls the renowned Mass. General laryngeal surgeon - who has also worked with Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Tom Hamilton, and Julie Andrews, among others - a miracle worker. Daltrey also disclosed that he had a meeting with producers from “American Idol,’’ but ultimately he wasn’t interested in the gig. He thinks, however, that the job has been good for Tyler, with whom he’s friendly. “God bless him, I really like him,’’ said Daltrey, chatting in the Bristol Lounge at the Four Seasons. “I saw him a couple of years ago and he’d just come off the wagon and he was not in a good way. And I saw him last year because we did a thing for Steven Zeitels in LA to raise awareness for the research he’s doing over there at Harvard and Steven had got the job on ‘American Idol’ and he was a different man. His confidence had come back. He was so together, the most I’ve ever seen him together, so it’s been incredibly good for him.’’
