Damon’s uncle loses Guinness record
Who knew? Until this week, Matt Damon’s uncle, George Brunstad, held the Guinness World Record for the oldest person to swim the English Channel. But yesterday, an even older guy - retired surgeon Roger Allsopp - managed to swim the 21 miles from Dover to northern France. Damon’s uncle was 70 years and 4 days old when he crossed the Channel in 2004, finishing in 15 hours and 59 minutes. Allsopp is only slightly older at 70 years and 4 months old. If it’s any consolation to Brunstad, it took Allsopp longer to swim the stormy sea: 17 hours and 51 minutes. “My body has told me not to do anything like this again,’’ he told the Guardian newspaper afterward.![]()
