Who knew? Until this week, Matt Damon’s uncle, George Brunstad, held the Guinness World Record for the oldest person to swim the English Channel. But yesterday, an even older guy - retired surgeon Roger Allsopp - managed to swim the 21 miles from Dover to northern France. Damon’s uncle was 70 years and 4 days old when he crossed the Channel in 2004, finishing in 15 hours and 59 minutes. Allsopp is only slightly older at 70 years and 4 months old. If it’s any consolation to Brunstad, it took Allsopp longer to swim the stormy sea: 17 hours and 51 minutes. “My body has told me not to do anything like this again,’’ he told the Guardian newspaper afterward.
