President Barack Obama speaks during an interview with "Good Morning America" co-anchor Robin Roberts on May 9. Obama said on Wednesday he believes same-sex couples should be allowed to marry, taking a stand on a divisive issue that is likely to please his political base and upset conservative voters. The comments, during the interview with Roberts, made Obama the first president to publicly express his support for gay marriage.

Ellen DeGeneres, Neil Patrick Harris, Ricky Martin, and Kim Kardashian are supporting President Obama's historic endorsement of same-sex marriage.

On May 9, Obama became the first president to publicly support same-sex marriage, revealing his perspective in an interview with "Good Morning America" host Robin Roberts. Soon after the announcement, stars publicly applauded Obama for his game-changing stance.

Ellen DeGeneres called President Obama "brave" during a taping of her hit talk show.

Other stars who took to social media to give props to the president are openly gay stars Neil Patrick Harris and Ricky Martin. Reality siren Kim Kardashian also weighed in on her blog, writing that she hoped Obama's message would inspire and encourage young people.
