snoopdogg.jpgIs Snoop Dogg changing his name? It seems the rapper is changing things up, transforming into Snoop Lion (though his legal name remains Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.). The West Coast artist held a news conference in New York on Monday, where he talked about his February trip to Jamaica as the inspiration for his change of moniker. The Lion worked on his new album, “Reincarnated,” while visiting the island. What do you think of Snoop Lion's new name?

rihanna2.jpgIn other music-related news ... Rihanna (left) and Drake are leading this year's MTV Video Music Award nominations with five nods each, and Katy Perry is following close behind with four. Rihanna is nominated for her hit ‘‘We Found Love’’ and for her duet with Drake on ‘‘Take Care.’’ The show takes place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sept. 6. And in the Olympic world ... Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, stepped out in a chic lavender Roksanda Ilincic dress for a party after the Olympic games Monday. Aside from looking lovely in lavender, the duchess also cheered on Prince William's cousin Zara Phillips as she took part in the Olympic equestrian games, taking home the silver medal with her team for the Eventing Team Jumping competition. Prince William and brother Harry were also in attendance. Oh, and did you know that when at home the royal couple watches "The Killing"? Vanity Fair features Catherine in the September issue, though the duchess was not interviewed by the magazine -- only "their friends and those in their orbit."

In case you're wondering how Justin Bieber factors into the Olympics, well, he's still tweeting, this time expressing his support to Team USA swimmer Missy Franklin, who won a gold medal yesterday in the women's individual 100-meter backstroke. This from Bieber:

"Heard @FranklinMissy is a fan of mine. now im a fan of hers too. CONGRATS on winning GOLD! #muchlove."

Who are you cheering for? Have you been tweeting your support to the athletes?
