What do Justin Bieber, Ryan Gosling, and Avril Lavigne have in common (besides an affinity for the spotlight)?

Genes.

That's right, the celebrities are actually distant Canadian cousins, reports The Associated Press.

Ancestry.com began researching Bieber's lineage about a year ago, using tidbits the star revealed in interviews. It found Bieber and Gosling are 11th cousins once removed, and Bieber and Lavigne are 12th cousins.

"The great thing about family history is that you never know what you're going to find," Michelle Ercanback, a researcher with Ancentry.com, told the AP. "It was a very pleasant surprise."

Read more about the findings in this AP report. And if you'd like to see a diagram of Bieber's family tree, check it out at E! Online.

And there's one more shocker about the genealogy report...Bieber and Celine Dion are also 10th cousins three times removed! They do sort of look alike, don't they?

Perhaps, in the words of the popular Dion song, "A new day has come" and these famous folks will be eating Thanksgiving dinner together. (Photo: AP Photo/Julie Jacobson, File)

Are you shocked by The Beebs' newfound family tree?
