Two weeks after being named GQ's filmmaker of the year, Boston native Ben Affleck has been dubbed Entertainment Weekly's entertainer of the year. The 40-year-old star will be featured on this week's EW cover, which hits newsstands Nov. 29.

An EW staff post attributed 40-year-old Affleck's selection for the "number one spot on [the] annual list of the most talented and original performers who entertained [the staff] in 2012" to his performance in "Argo."

Affleck directed and starred in the film, and his role as Tony Mendez, a CIA operative and exfiltration expert, has EW wondering about Academy Award nominations.

Boston Globe critic Wesley Morris noted in his review of "Argo" that "Affleck is the first actor since [Warren] Beatty’s generation of stars to make a persuasive case for himself as an honest-to-goodness Hollywood filmmaker."
