When Jake Davidson posted a video on YouTube asking Kate Upton to the prom, he never thought he would actually get a response. That all changed on Wednesday morning when the 17-year-old Los Angeles teenager got to chat with the Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover model via "TODAY."
Davidson was chatting with the show's hosts, Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb (who was making an earlier appearance on "TODAY" than her usual 10 a.m. slot), when Guthrie announced that she had been on the "Dial-a-thon" all morning and had Upton on the phone.
The calm and collected persona that Davidson had presented earlier in the segment (which took place around 7:30 a.m. EST, 4:30 PST) dissipated, and he struggled to get the word "hi" out to greet Upton.
Upton: Jake how do you feel? I can't believe you're on a show and everything now! This is so amazing.
Davidson: This just got so much better now that you're on the phone.
Upton: I really love the video. it was so hilarious and so creative. Thank you so much for doing that, i really appreciate it.
Kotb: Jake make your pitch
Davidson: Kate, I'm telling you it could be a great night, a great evening. I could even get the curfew extended from my parents maybe. We could go to a great dinner before, I hope you'd be interested, if your schedule's free. And what time can I pick you up if you're interested?
Upton: Well I'd definitely have to just check my schedule and if everything works out, I'd love to go with you. I know we'd have a blast.
The day before he spoke directly to Upton, she replied to his request on Twitter:
Why did Davidson choose Upton for his prophetic pitch?
"Well besides the obvious, she's obviously very pretty," he said. "Sports Illustrated I read it, like I said. She was great on the cover the past couple of years. She likes sports...I like sports. "
Still no word on whether or not Upton has cleared up her schedule. "Entertainment Tonight" caught up with her later in the day (see video below), and Upton was still waiting to check her schedule.
During the interview with the celebrity-based show, Upton said she leaves the scheduling to her manager. She also added that she's very busy. Think that was a cop-out? We're crossing our fingers for Davidson! Who doesn't like a Cinderella story? Did you have a fun prom date? Let us know in the comments.
