Do you know what breatharianism is?

Actress Michelle Pfeiffer knows all too well. Followers of breatharianism believe humans can give up food and water and live on sunlight and air.

Pfeiffer was part of a group that believed in breatharianism when she first moved to Hollywood in the '80s, she revealed to The Telegraph's Stella magazine.

The 55-year-old actress and star of "The Family" told "The Telegraph" that she spent time with a "very controlling" couple who put her on a diet that "nobody could adhere to." She didn't live with them, but spent quite a bit of time with them and was charged for it, she said.

It was her first husband Peter Horton (they divorced in 1988) who saved her from the group, Pfeiffer said in the interview. Horton had been cast in a film about Moonies, followers of Rev Sun Myung Moon’s Unification Church. While helping him research "this cult," as she called it, she realized "I was in one."

Pfeiffer does not reveal how she left the group.

What do you think of Pfeiffer's involvement in such a group?
