After a big engagement party last New Year's Eve, actor Christian Slater and fiance Brittany Lopez reportedly talked about getting married in July. The couple was going to host an intimate backyard affair.

For whatever reason, the wedding didn't happen this past summer. And this week the couple ditched the wedding ceremony altogether, opting for an impromptu exchange of vows Monday at a courthouse in Coral Gables, Fla.

The couple went to the courthouse to get a marriage license and then decided to just say their vows right then and there, People.com reports. The magazine reports the duo left shortly after as husband and wife, asking a court clerk to snap a photo of them on the way out.

Check out the photo on E! News.

The "Mind Games" actor, 44, has been with Lopez for three years. They will certainly have an interesting "how we met" story to tell their kids (if they have any). Slater told Jimmy Fallon he met Lopez in 2009 at the Little Palm Island resort in Miami. He was sitting eating oatmeal when he thought he saw her bend down and propose to another woman in a spot well-known for proposals. When he went over to congratulate the women, Lopez revealed it was her aunt. Then the two started hanging out.

This is Slater's second marriage. Slater was previously married to actress Ryan Haddon and has two children. (Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images)
