To say retired actor Shia LeBeouf has been acting a bit strange lately is an understatement.

The 27-year-old opted to wear a brown paper bag over his head to promote his new film "Nympomaniac: Volume 1" in Berlin on Sunday, after answering questions during a press conference in a rather cryptic fashion.

The bag of choice for the red carpet premiere spelled out a more literal message, "I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE," a phrase hist Twitter followers may recognize from recent tweets.

Before donning the headgear, he attended a press conference for the film, and when asked about the sex scenes in "Nymphomaniac" (while sitting along side fellow cast mates Uma Thurman and Christian Slater), answered:

When the seagulls follow the trawler, it's because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea. Thank you very much.

The line is from French soccer player Eric Cantona, who says those words in the film "Looking for Eric," reports E! News.

Then he promptly stormed out. Oh, and he was missing a tooth. Perhaps it was because of the bar brawl he was allegedly involved in a few weeks ago in London, according to TMZ?

Let's back up a bit. Last year he was accused of plagiarizing a comic by Daniel Clowes in his short, HowardCantour.com. He apologized by plagiarizing other sources. He then took to the skies to apologize, hiring a skywriter to write "I am sorry Daniel Clowes."

He tweeted a pic of it on January 1:

Then he retired via Twitter on January 10:

LaBeouf became a joke soon after at the Golden Globes, courtesy of Jim Carrey, who said, "Dying is easy. Comedy is hard. I believe it was Shia LaBeouf who said that..."

LaBeouf's response on Twitter:

Huh?

Speaking of LaBeouf on Twitter, every tweet (22 in all) since the one about Carrey on Jan. 13 has been identical to this:

What do you think of LaBeouf's behavior?

As for the premiere, hey, at least he wore a tux! Read more from E! News.
