Arrests

Reese Witherspoon says she 'had one drink too many,' apologizes for Friday arrest

Posted by Rachel Raczka April 22, 2013 09:36 AM

America's sweetheart Reese Witherspoon and husband Jim Toth, an agent for Creative Artists Agency, were taken into custody early Friday morning in Atlanta. Toth was pulled over at a traffic stop for swerving between lanes and subsequently jailed with DUI charges after failing a sobriety test, according to the official report acquired by Variety.

The "Mud" actress was also cuffed and taken into custody after she "verbally sparred" the arresting officer. The couple was quickly released on bond at 3:30 a.m. on Friday.

Witherspoon released a statement Sunday, according to E! Online, saying:

"Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse."

The Oscar-winning actress also apologized for being "disrespectful" to the arresting officer and said she has "nothing but respect for the police."

Witherspoon and Toth were due in Atlanta Municipal Court for a hearing on the incident earlier this morning but neither was required to attend. E! notes the maximum charge for Toth could be "a year in jail, a $1,000 fine, 40 hours of community service, a defensive driving class and a license suspension," while Witherspoon could face "a $1,000 fine and up to 60 days in custody" under city ordinance. A follow-up court date may be set within the next 30-60 days depending on today's outcome.

Witherspoon and Toth both attended the Sunday premiere of her upcoming film "Mud" in New York City, but opted to keep mum on the topic.

Conor Kennedy, dad Robert Kennedy Jr., and Daryl Hannah arrested at D.C. protest

conor-kennedy-pipeline-protest-arrested-400.jpgTaylor Swift's ex-beau, Connor Kennedy, was arrested on Tuesday with his father Robert Kennedy Jr. and green activist-actress, Daryl Hannah while participating in a protest against the Keystone XL pipeline project.

According to the New York Times, the three were among four dozen protesters "who zip-tied themselves to the White House fence and defied police orders to leave... [they were]
charged with failure to disperse and obey lawful orders, and released on $100 bond each."

Kennedy and his fellow Sierra Club protesters took action to encourage President Obama to veto to the Keystone XL oil pipeline project that would result in a "1,700-mile pipeline, which would carry heavy crude from oil sands formations in Alberta to refineries on the Gulf Coast," the Times report says.

Meanwhile, Swift announced her Valentine's Day plans (flying solo or with "girlfriends") and is celebrating her latest single/video and ACM Awards nominations:

Swift and Kennedy called it quits in the fall after a brief romance that brought the "22" star to Cape Cod and Boston during the summer.

On our radar: 'Jersey Shore' star arrested, Jennifer Lopez not engaged

Posted by Mawuse Ziegbe June 11, 2012 09:49 AM

When it comes to the "Jersey Shore," some things never change.

Housemate Deena Cortese was arrested in Seaside Heights, New Jersey after walking out of a bar and dancing in traffic. Cortese, who follows Snooki and Ronnie as other "Shore" stars who have been cuffed in Seaside, was charged with disorderly conduct and then released.

Jennifer Lopez has batted away rumors that she is set to marry her boyfriend of a few months, Casper Smart. The media mogul was spotted with a sparkler on her ring finger, but, quoting her 2002 dance hit "Jenny From the Block," she told fans not to be "fooled by the rocks that I got," and explained she has no plans to get hitched anytime soon.
