Elizabeth Taylor, the last of the great Hollywood studio stars and the first of the modern mega-celebrities, died of congestive heart failure March 23 at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Hospital. Although seemingly ageless, she was in fact 79. Read the full story.
Taylor dazzled Boston on more than one occasion. The actress made appearances in the city in the 1970s and '80s, and Globe photographers got some terrific shots. Pictured, Taylor at Filene's department store in Downtown Crossing in 1987.
