If you believe the tabloids -- and sometimes we do -- Adam Lambert's new boyfriend is singer Ferras Alqaisi.

That's relevant to Boston because Ferras is a former Berklee College of Music student.

Lambert has denied that the two are a couple.

The always entertaining Los Angeles Times columnist T.J. Simers caught with Jamie McCourt, soon-to-be ex-wife of Dodgers owner Frank McCourt. His interview with her, linked here, is worth reading. At one point, he asks about the Globe's story about the McCourts's messy divorce, linked here.

Kim Kardashian is not coming to Boston this Friday. She was supposed to be in town to help Gypsy Bar celebrate its anniversary, but cancelled because of a "filming conflict." Gypsy Bar says New York City ’s DJ Roctakon and Montreal ’s DJ Yossi will appear in her place. The party starts at 9 p.m., if you're still interested.

BU grad Ginnifer Goodwin talks turkey

Boston University grad Ginnifer Goodwin is all for turkeys -- protecting them, not eating them.

The actress, best known for “Big Love” and “He’s Just Not That Into You,” stars in a new public service announcement campaign for Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt-A-Turkey project, which aims to keep turkeys safe from slaughter.

Goodwin says, on Farm Sanctuary's website, “After spending time with the rescued turkeys at Farm Sanctuary’s shelter and seeing how similar they are to my furry companion animals at home, I knew I needed to do everything in my power to protect these friendly and curious birds from the daily pain and suffering they endure on factory farms.”

Goodwin also says, of her recent trip to the shelter, “I grew fairly attached to a turkey named Magnolia. And there’s a ... goat who likes to play good-natured butting-heads games with humans. I dug her.” For the record, Goodwin -- a vegan -- says she'll be cooking Tofurky for Thanksgiving.

First look at 'Locked In'

"Valediction," the Eliza Dushku-Ben Barnes movie that was shot around South Boston a few months ago, appears to have a new name. The thriller-drama is now called "Locked In." There's already a trailer for the film. Here it is:

Another day, another Krasinski sighting

We paid a lot of attention to John Krasinski when he was in town over the weekend screening his new movie "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men." Now that he's gone, my colleague is sad. So here he is with his sweetheart Emily Blunt at a party last night in New York.

Krasinski comes home

It looks like John Krasinski is on “The Office” to stay. "I would never leave,” said the actor who plays Jim Halpert on the NBC show. The Newton native is town to promote his latest film, “Brief Interviews With Hideous Men,” and yesterday he stopped by the Globe to chat with Boston.com readers. Krasinski wrote, directed, and stars in the film, which began as a staged reading when he was a student at Brown. (The movie is based on the David Foster Wallace book of the same name.) Though his "Office" co-stars couldn’t make it to last night's screening at the Kendall Square Cinema - “I’ll forgive them just this once” - his parents, brothers, and assorted Brown buddies were. Krasinski told us fame is both good and bad. On the one hand, he's happy his film might entice people to read Wallace, who committed suicide last year. On the other, there's way too much attention paid to, say, his recent engagement to actress Emily Blunt. “It's not only strange but completely and totally surreal," he said. "It feels like you're in a weird dream -- or a nightmare.” Krasinski will talk about Wallace tonight at Brookline Booksmith and the film screens again at the Kendall. (The transcript of his chat is at www.boston.com/ae.)

Someone detained in Brady wedding shooting

A security guard is reportedly in custody in connection with the shooting at the wedding of Pats QB Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen. An AFP reporter witnessed a half-dozen officers raid the Avahuer security company, which oversaw the April 4 wedding in Costa Rica. Authorities identified the detainee as Alexander Rivas Barahona, a security agent of Colombian nationality. AFP photographer Yuri Cortez and Rolando Aviles, a freelancer who was working for Costa Rican daily Al Dia, were covering the wedding reception at Bundchen's home in Costa Rica when the incident occurred. According to a lawsuit filed by AFP and the photographers, Cortez and Aviles were driven to the Bundchen property and ordered by bodyguards to hand over their cameras and memory cards. When they refused, the guards opened fire on their vehicle, according to the suit. The lawsuit, filed in a US District Court in New York, accuses Brady and his Brazilian-born wife of "negligence and carelessness" and seeks one million dollars in damages.

Trinette Faint, 38, of Somerville, won the Harper’s Bazaar-Estee Lauder-sponsored Fabulous at Every Age contest last week.

Faint, who used to be Matt Damon’s personal assistant, is a photographer who also runs FaintServicesGroup.com, a personal assistance company catering to film stars in town for movie projects. The Estee Lauder-Bazaar honor came with a $10,000 cash prize, a bunch of Estee Lauder goodies, and the chance to meet actress Elizabeth Hurley, the face of Estee Lauder. Faint says she’ll use the cash to start a new hair care product company, LoveHue.com, which will launch after Thanksgiving.

Faint said, of meeting Hurley at the Bazaar party, “She was so nice. I was completely blown away by the level of sincerity of everyone in the room, not just her.’’

Tonya Mezrich off 'Style Boston'

Was Tonya Chen Mezrich (above) kicked off the local show “Style Boston’’ because she’s pregnant - or because she wasn’t up to the job? Mezrich claims she was let go from the independently produced show because she got pregnant.

Mezrich, the wife of author Ben Mezrich, sent us a statement yesterday that read: “. . . the producer’s attitude toward me changed dramatically on the heels of learning that I was pregnant. Given the overwhelmingly positive feedback I have received in connection with the show, it appears that now I too have fallen prey to this all too common bias in this industry.’’ Mezrich also said, “I was stunned and disappointed to have been removed from the show, especially given my integral role in the show’s conception and development over the last 14 months.’’

But “Style Boston’’ producer Terri Stanley says Mezrich’s pregnancy had nothing to do with her removal from the show, which airs on NECN. Stanley says Mezrich just wasn’t ready for prime time. “I have been unhappy with [Mezrich’s segment] ‘Fashion Forward’ for a while,’’ Stanley told us yesterday. “I’ve tried to work with Tonya because I love Tonya. But she is not strong enough to carry the most important segment of the show, which is about Boston fashion.’’ Stanley also claims Mezrich wasn’t knowledgeable enough about fashion to do the job. “She looks fantastic, but it doesn’t mean you have a lot of knowledge of the subject.’’

Stanley added that she would never discriminate against someone because of a pregnancy. “I’m a working mother. I’m a huge advocate for women. I’m very distressed that that’s the play she would be making in order for her to justify what has happened.’’ Stanley said she’ll have guest hosts fill Mezrich’s shoes until a replacement has been chosen.

Here's a recent Mezrich segment on NECN:

Isaac Mizrahi in witch country

“She can bring out the hot pink in taupe,’’ Isaac Mizrahi raved of self-described “geriatric starlet’’ Iris Apfel and her signature style, which is currently on display at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem. Mizrahi, the bigger-than-life fashion designer and TV personality (he’ll host a program on QVC starting next month), sat down with Apfel on Tuesday in front of a sold-out audience. Among the topics: their mutual style heroes (Millicent Rogers, for one) and what bothers them about fashion magazines (Mizrahi: the advertising; Apfel: the uniformity of clothes). Mizrahi even sounded a bit jealous of the 88-year-old Apfel, whom he described as one of the first post-modernists. “I remember once I got a criticism for doing things too big [in my designs], and my reaction was ‘Well, why is Iris allowed to do that?’"

Judd Nelson replaced by Peter Wolf

Portland-bred "Breakfast Club" star Judd Nelson (above, in shades, a long time ago) was supposed to serve as the Portland Symphony Orchestra's guest narrator on Sunday. Sadly the real-life John Bender will not be able to attend.

The PSO released a statement yesterday saying that because of an injury, Nelson -- whose father once served as the president of the PSO's Board of Directors -- will be replaced for the concert by Peter Wolf, of J. Geils Band fame (below).

Wolf will help the orchestra and the Portland Ballet Company with Stravinsky’s L’histoire du Soldat, the story of a soldier who gives his fiddle to the devil in exchange for secrets about the future of the economy. How timely.

Wolf was most recently seen jamming with Bruce Springsteen at the 25th Anniversary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame show at Madison Square Garden over the weekend.

Knight & Day in Eastie

Crews with "Knight & Day" -- the Tom Cruise-Cameron Diaz movie that's still filming around town -- are in East Boston. Folks at the pizza place Dough on Maverick Street said Cruise was seen just a few blocks away, as confirmed to them by some talkative teamsters. Tom Cruise on Maverick Street. Makes us want to sing "Danger Zone."

The Boston Police Department says Eastie residents can expect to hear fake gunshots throughout today.

Wayland being Wayland in movie 'Girlfriend'

Posted by Meredith Goldstein November 4, 2009 01:05 PM

We ought to be able to recognize Wayland in the movie "Girlfriend." Justin Lerner, the film's writer and director, grew up there, and he wrote the script around the local businesses that gave him permission to shoot on their premises a few weeks ago -- places such as the ever-popular deli Caraway's and State Road Auto Body.

"Girlfriend" is about a young man with Down syndrome who develops a relationship with a woman who has an abusive ex-boyfriend. The film stars Evan Sneider, who worked with Lerner on a short film a few years ago; the two are 1998 Wayland High grads (see picture below). The cast includes Shannon Woodward, who was on the FX series "The Riches"; character actress Amanda Plummer; and Jackson Rathbone (above), who plays Jasper Hale in the "Twilight" movies.

Jerad Anderson, who plays with Rathbone in the rock band 100 Monkeys and produced "Girlfriend," said having Rathbone on board has given the indie film a higher profile. More than a few "Twilight" fans have been hanging around the set, hoping to get a glimpse of their vampire crush. "He doesn't get creeped out by it," Anderson joked. He said it was rewarding to work with a director filming in his hometown. Thanks to Lerner, Anderson got to know the local shops and restaurants. "Shoppers World -- that was kind of like the weekend hangout."

Lerner, who will spend the rest of the year editing "Girlfriend," promises that Wayland and Boston will get first dibs when the film is ready for an audience. "We are hoping to actually do a Boston premiere. Maybe rent out the, what is it called, the Brattle Theatre?"

Shrewsbury-bred comedian Mike Birbiglia has two sold-out shows at the Wilbur Theatre this weekend -- but Wilbur marketing guy Andrew Mather says he has two tickets to spare. Mather told us yesterday that he'll give away a pair of seats and dinner-for-two at Jacob Wirth to whoever can post the most creative picture of themselves with Dennis Eckersley on the Wilbur's Facebook wall (www.facebook.com/wilburtheatre). "I expect there will be a lot of Photoshop going on," Mather said, laughing. We also hear that when Birbiglia is in town, he may re-enact "Make Way for Ducklings" in the Public Garden with his opening act, Joe Wong. So if you see two men quacking, that's why.

Dipsy, Laa-Laa, Po . . . and Manny. Yes, that’s Manny Delcarmen with three Teletubbies at Kings in the Back Bay.

The trio dressed in Tubby gear were actually just some Halloween revelers who happened to be at the bowling alley on Saturday when Delcarmen hosted his annual “Bowl Strikes for Schools’’ benefit. Delcarmen was joined for the afternoon of bowling by his wife and son, Anna and Manny III, and good sport Terry Francona. The event raised more than $20,000 for the Boston Public Schools.

50 Cent called us on the phone

If you saw a guy who looks like 50 Cent roaming around Boston yesterday, it was probably 50 Cent.

The rapper was in town to screen his directorial debut, “Before I Self Destruct,’’ at the AMC Loews Boston Common. He called us from the Liberty Hotel last night, just before the screenings. He said that seeing the hotel, which he knew used to be a jail, is the closest he’s come to sightseeing in Boston. “I don’t really get the chance to explore Boston,’’ he said, explaining that whenever he’s in town, he’s too busy performing to go anywhere.

Anyone who buys 50’s new album, which comes out Nov. 16, will also get a copy of the DVD of the movie “Before I Self Destruct.’’ The rapper not only directed the picture, he also wrote it and stars in it. He explained that the album and movie are packaged together because the music inspired the film - like a reverse soundtrack. He added that he loved writing the screenplay because he could get deep. Apparently, you can only get so far with lyrics to a three-minute song. “With records, there’s only enough time to create descriptions. You don’t have time to create a cause and effect.’’

After seeing herself referred to as a Northeastern University freshman - most likely on Boston.com - Foxborough-bred pop star JoJo tweeted that she wants to make it clear that she has deferred her first year of college to work on her music career. That explains why she has been in Los Angeles so much.

We wonder ... does recording an album count as a Northeastern co-op?

Thanks to the Patriots bye week, our quarterback and his wife were able to spend their Halloween holiday in South Beach.

Tom Brady and a very pregnant Gisele Bundchen were spotted having an early dinner at the popular Prime 112 on Ocean Drive. An employee at the restaurant told us that despite the mess of paparazzi outside, patrons allowed the couple to enjoy their dinner without interruption.

Miami Herald gossiper Lesley Abravanel tweeted yesterday that Tom and Gisele were staying in the penthouse of Victoria’s Secret exec Ed Razek.

Play with Landon Pigg

Attention all musicians who play funky instruments: Landon Pigg wants you.

The dreamy folk singer and actor, who plays Ellen Page’s love interest in the Drew Barrymore-directed roller-derby movie “Whip It,’’ says that when he arrives at the Paradise Rock Club tonight, he’ll be looking for musicians, especially those who play oddball instruments, waiting outside the venue.

The last time Pigg (inset) performed in Boston, his keyboard player noticed a woman with a trumpet strapped to her back outside the club. Pigg wound up befriending her, teaching her a song, and bringing her on stage for a number. Pigg hopes history repeats itself tonight. “We hope to find maybe someone with a trumpet - and maybe someone with an interesting instrument that I’m not thinking of right now.’’ Accordion? Oboe?

Pigg admits that because of his sensitive-guy role in “Whip It,’’ and his song “Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop,’’ which has been used in some weepy television commercials, most of the people who come out to his live shows are swooning women, not that that’s a bad thing. “It’s moms and daughters who like to buy my T-shirts,’’ Pigg told us, laughing. “In the cooler cities, we get some dudes out. The dudes are so appreciated.’’ Pigg opens for A Fine Frenzy at 8.

Clay Buchholz and Lindsay Clubine ready to wed

Baseball season's over, but the fun's just beginning for Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz and his bride-to-be Lindsay Clubine. The couple, who've been dating for a little over a year, are getting hitched two weeks from today. "There's just a few little things left to be done," Clubine told us yesterday. "Clay just helped me pick out the cake." The pair are getting married at Trump National Golf Club in L.A. and among the 120 or so well-wishers will be 12 of Clay's current and former teammates, including Jacoby Ellsbury, Jed Lowrie, Michael Bowden, Casey Kochman, Brad Penny, and Justin Masterson. "It's so great Justin's coming," said Clubine. "He's our buddy." Perhaps best known as Briefcase Model No. 26 on ``Deal or No Deal,'' Clubine was introduced to Buchholz by Donald Trump at a party following a UFC fight. "There were a bunch of players there, and Donald walked me over and said, 'Hey guys, this is Lindsay and she's single.' He literally threw me to the wolves. Clay and I hit it off and the friendship just grew." While on hiatus from "Deal or No Deal," Clubine's been keeping busy. With her buddy Katie Cleary, she filmed "Follow Me to Bliss," an online ad campaign for the 2010 Lincoln Mercury Milan Hybrid ("In 48 hours, we drove all over New England on one tank of gas"); hosted the HDNet travel show "Get Out!" ("It's basically hot girls in bikinis running around doing shark dives, bungee jumping, and other extreme sports"); and filmed a scene for Jon Favreau's "Iron Man 2" ("I'm a girl at Tony Stark's birthday party and I run around in the Iron Man mask in a bikini"). If you're wondering about the honeymoon, Clubine said she and Clay are going to David Ortiz's celeb-heavy golf tourney Dec. 3 in the Dominican Republic, and then getting a cabana elsewhere in the Caribbean for a few days.

Summit Entertainment and the Natick Collection have announced the names of the two “Twilight: New Moon” cast members who will be coming to the mall in a few weeks.

They are (drum roll, please): Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz.

No Robert Pattinson. Sigh.

Greene, who plays the premonition-prone pixie Alice Cullen in the “Twlight” movies, and Lutz, who plays her beefy brother Emmett, will visit Nordstrom at the Natick Collection on Nov. 12. To find out how to meet them, visit nordstrom.com/newmoon.
