Per the Associated Press: Lauren Bacall, Bill Cosby, performers from Broadway and some surprise guests will celebrate Sen. Edward Kennedy's recent birthday with a special performance at the Kennedy Center next month. The Massachusetts senator, who turned 77 on Feb. 22, has been battling brain cancer. On Wednesday, Kennedy Center officials announced plans for the March 8 event to honor the "liberal lion," who was elected in 1962 to finish his brother's term when Sen. John F. Kennedy was elected president. Kennedy has been a trustee of the performing arts center since its creation. Kennedy Center President Michael Kaiser says the Massachusetts Democrat has long been a staunch supporter of the arts. Kennedy has been mostly absent from the Capitol since he suffered a seizure on Inauguration Day. He returned to the Senate this month to vote for the economic stimulus package.
