Rock n' Roll Republicans?
Was the GOP rebuffed by Aerosmith yesterday? A new 30-second ad created by Republican Congressman Eric Cantor and featuring a snippet of the Boston band's classic "Back in the Saddle" was posted yesterday on YouTube, but pulled later in the day. The spot, dissing President Obama's stimulus plan, had been linked to by several music and politics web sites. We inquired whether Toxic Twins Steven Tyler and Joe Perry had given Republicans permission to use the tune, but the band's publicist didn't get back to us. During the campaign, Perry had called himself a "hardcore Republican" and a supporter of John McCain. Other rockers, including Jackson Browne, the Foo Fighters, Bon Jovi, John Mellencamp, Ann and Nancy Wilson, and Boston’s Tom Scholz would not let the GOP use their music during the campiagn.
