This just in from our own TV news expert Johnny Diaz:

NECN is broadening its 6 p.m. newscast. Beginning March 16, NECN will begin airing “Broadside: The News with Jim Braude” in place of “Right Now with R.D. Sahl.” Braude, who's been hosting “NewsNight” at 8 p.m., will give his spin on the top news stories each week night.

“You'll still get all the news, but with commentary,” said Braude in a new release. (Our favorite kind of news!) Braude already imparts his opinions on the day's news as co-host of a three-hour show with Margery Eagan on WTKK (96.9 FM) “The new program unleashes Jim Braude,” added NECN news director Tom Melville. By branding Braude, the show goes against the grain at 6 p.m., when the more traditional dual anchor newscasts air on Boston broadcast channels. Longtime NECN news anchor R.D. Sahl will move into the 7 p.m. slot with an eponymous show that focuses on the top stories from New England.
