It's no surprise that Huey Lewis likes golf (remember the album "Fore!"?), but it's a little surprising that the West-Coast-bred rocker knows so much about golf courses in Massachusetts. After his Saturday-night show at the South Shore Music Circus, the now 58-year-old Lewis told us he loves his Boston-area visits because of the great greens around town. Lewis said he spent a day last week golfing with family at the Myopia Hunt Club in Hamilton. "We'll play wherever they invite us. We play at the country club in Brookline, in Winchester ... Winchesta," he said, faking a Boston accent.

Worth mentioning is that Lewis did not play "The Heart of Rock and Roll" during his Saturday show. According to his manager, Lewis is absolutely sick of the song. We can't blame him.

  1. He did play it in Hampton Beach last weekend. It was the opener of the show. Also worth mentioning.

  1. Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour.

  1. Lousy name for a band but I loved them back in the day. I still have "The Power of Love" and "Hip To Be Square" on my iPod. And a great performance at Live Aid in '84. Hope you're doing well, Huey, and thanks for all the great music.

  1. Note to Meredith Goldstein: It's "The Country Club," and if I could get on there for singing karaoke staples, I would too.

  1. I would have liked to have seen Huey play at the shows in Massachusetts. I had a chance to catch him a week ago in Atlantic City at the Hilton and Huey and the News were fantastic. He really connected with the audience and his charisma made it extra special. It reminded me of when he wasn’t a household name in the early 80’s and I saw him play at a small bar called the Tally Ho (Wilmington, DE) - Very intimate and lots of vigor and good vibes. Not like in his heydays of the late 80’s/90’s when he played the big arenas. He’s a lot better now and puts on a much better show for few people.
Too bad I won’t be able to catch up with him this week in Cooperstown, NY on July 1st. Hopefully, I will see Huey and the News again on September 12th at the New Mexico State Fair in Albuquerque. Keep on Rockin!

  1. I was there Saturday night and I did miss "Heart of Rock and Roll" but other than that the show was fantastic. Third time I ahve seen him and it was his best. That says a lot because I really liked him both other times.

  1. I saw Huey Lewis and the News at the Worster Centrum back in 87. 7 rows from the front of the stage. It was completely sold out and they were absolutely amazing with a full brass section. Those guys can do some very good A cappella as well.
