Georgia Sparling, a local photojournalist and videographer whose exhibition, “Town & Country,” is on display at the Mattapoisett Free Public Library on Barstow Street, will be the featured speaker at the library’s “Meet the Artist” session Thursday at 3 p.m. Sparling lived and worked in China for six years, and the photographs in her show reflect those times, she said, as well as visits to America’s West Coast and local shorelines. “Once I started taking pictures in China, I was rarely without a camera,” she said in an e-mail. “In Shanghai there was always something striking and unusual to take a photo of, something fleeting in that quickly changing city.” The library has featured area writers, artists, and photographers, and the series of discussions on their work has been very well attended, said Ellen P. Flynn, vice president of the Friends of Mattapoisett Library, the event’s cosponsor. “We once had poet Franklin Reeve,’’ the father of late actor Christopher Reeve, “and it was standing-room only,” Flynn said in a phone interview. “The public is very supportive of these events.” Admission is free and refreshments will be served, she said.
