Urban Oasis

Aching for a bit of affordable but stylish hot tub relaxation? Escape to Urban Oasis in Inman Square in Cambridge, where you can enjoy a soothing hydrotherapeutic treatment and, if that’s not enough, an invigorating massage.

‘‘This center was designed to be more of a wellness setting than a spa,’’ says hydrotherapy specialist Renee Farster, who founded Urban Oasis with massage therapist Jo Gray. ‘‘We wanted it to be affordable and about relaxation.’’

Relaxing it is. The hot tubs’ massage-action hydro jets whirl through warm water, easing sore muscles. The soaker controls the tub’s water flow and temperature. There are two tubs for private use — one wood, one fiberglass, they each hold up to five people — and one wooden communal tub that can accommodate 10.

The wooden tubs, modeled after traditional Japanese vessels, are made from jarrah wood and teak and are often used to complement massage therapy. A therapeutic massage runs from $20 to $110.

Rates for two for private hot tub sessions range from $38 for 30 minutes to $55 for an hour; fees for each additional guest range from $5 for 30 minutes to $10 for an hour.

Communal tub rates start at $10 per person for 15 minutes and $17 for 30 minutes. Frequent soakers can buy tub time in blocks: two-and-a-half hours for $75, five hours for $150. Communal tub rates for private parties of more than eight people are customized.

Urban Oasis, which opened in the fall, was once home to Rosie’s Bakery. When the bakery moved, Farster and Gray leased the vacated space from the bakery’s owner. They teamed their architect with a feng shui expert and subjected the space to a complete renovation. The space is too cozy for locker rooms — there are changing rooms, however — so clients store their belongings in portable baskets. ‘‘Baskets are more personalized, welcoming, and convenient,’’ Farster says. ‘‘They travel with the owner.’’
