Get tips on what's hot this weekend. Sidekick's Meredith Goldstein is online every Thursday at 11 to talk about what's happening around the Hub.
The transcript follows.
Meredith_Goldstein: Hi everybody. It's Meredith from Sidekick. Lets chat about the weekend. There are some good DJs in town, an arts festival or two, and a Red Sox-themed menu at Bonfire I may have to try
jesseca80: I know it's early, but what's going on the night of July 3rd?
Meredith_Goldstein: Youre obviously a good planner. Not sure if youre looking for nightlife or patriotism, but Bostons Harborfest will be in full swing that night (bostonharborfest.com/daily/tue.html), and Johnny Ds is dedicating its space to talk about our country. Its a soapbox night. It should also be a big night for clubs with no work the next day. Aria is already planning a big party.
krussy__Guest_: hoping the weather is more seasonable for some out door activties anything going on outside themed
Meredith_Goldstein: The South Shore Arts Festival is this weekend, and that should be a good time outdoors. ssac.org
Meredith_Goldstein: Also, lately, Im big on day trips. If you dont mind an hour-long car trek, the Music Hall in Portsmouth has a great summer movies series. You can walk around the quaint shops outside, see a flick, and then eat at Popovers on the Square. The restaurant has a $40 dinner-and-a-movie package. A perfect mix of inside and outside time. And a very good date thing-to-do. themusichall.org
IFeelLikeACannoli__Guest_: your opinion: Mike's Pastry or Modern Pastry?
Meredith_Goldstein: I will answer this question. But I am not a food critic. I am also not Italian. So consider those disclaimers. I like Modern. And one of the reasons I like Modern is because there is less of a line standing between me and the aforementioned cannoli.
IFeelLikeACannoli__Guest_: Great suggestion! (Arts Festival) and it looks to be dog friendly!!!
Meredith_Goldstein: It's kettle corn friendly. That's all that matters to me.
cov__Guest_: Meredith, you are one social butterfly. When are you gonna come out and take one of our Boston Movie Tours? Jeff
Meredith_Goldstein: Im assuming this is Jeff, who runs Boston Movie Tours (bostonmovietours.net). Jeff, when are you getting Leonardo DiCaprio to come on a Departed tour? Because Id like to go with him, if thats possible.
ahead_thinker__Guest_: Meredith, I have a date on Thursday and we're trying to figure out a place. I want something a little romantic, but not too romantic, since this is only the second time I'll have seen him. Any ideas in Cambridge?
Meredith_Goldstein: Second date. Thats a tough one. You want something that says I like you a lot but not a place that says lets procreate. Hmm. Silvertone Bar & Grill might have just the right lighting but is busy enough to make things comfortable. If the thought is Cambridge, I say B-Side. Joses (josesmex.com) is nice enough for Mexican on date 2. Cuchi Cuchi also has tarot card readings on Thursdays (cuchicuchi.cc). A fun activity, and you can see the future (a third date?).
theolddave11: Meredith, when you "get out" where do you like to go? (and with whom? :)
Meredith_Goldstein: I get out with many people and to many places. I like live music and dinner with friends the most.
Meredith_Goldstein: Just got word that Mix 98.5 starts its free outdoor summer concert series on Monday with Paulo Nutini at 12:30 at the Prudential Centers South Garden. Also a good outdoor activity, for the person who asked. Looks like Mandy Moore is doing a similar gig later this summer. Oh Mandy, I want to hate you but I can't.
cov__Guest_: Yep, it's Jeff. Leo can come out any time he wants. And if he does, we'll give ya a call.
Meredith_Goldstein: Give me a day notice so I can plan an outfit, please.
Kerry__Guest_: What is your favorite dinner and fun drinks spot with girlfriends?
Meredith_Goldstein: We like the B-Side in Cambridge. We like the Parish Café on Boylston for sandwiches and sipping. And when we are feeling in the mood, we go to the Border Café and we overdo it on Tex-Mex and margaritas. The Field in Central Square sometimes works
the options are limitless
and one friend of mine has been enjoying the Blarney Stone in Dorchester.
Meredith_Goldstein: Sorry. I like many places.
TBONE__Guest_: ever been to Stella's of Middle Street in Newburyport?
Meredith_Goldstein: Never been. Usually, I stop at Agave on State Street. Any thoughts on Stella's we should know?
stewed_tomato__Guest_: Meredith, what has you laughing so hard in that picture of you on boston.com?
Meredith_Goldstein: The photographer. Who was making fun of me, I think. Im not sure I blame him.
Meredith_Goldstein: Ok. Since no one has asked me for my humble opinion about DJs this weekend, Im offering up two spots for tomorrow night Stretch Armstrong is a veteran New York City DJ and will be playing mash-ups at Gypsy Bar, and Paul Van Dyk, who is a trance legend, is at Avalon.
Seabass__Guest_: Not sure if this is up your alley, but do you know of any cool volunteer organizations that double as a good way to meet some new people?
Meredith_Goldstein: Yup. Single Volunteers Boston. (svboston.org) Looks like they need help (men and women) for the Cambridge River Festival this weekend.
Meredith_Goldstein: Ok, folks. I have to go eat lunch. If you like to be told what to do with your spare time, you can check out this link:
