November 8, 2007

Though the past few years have been rather quiet in terms of new Natalie Merchant releases, the ex-10,000 Maniacs leader has been busy lending her talents to social and civic causes. Merchant, along with local favorites Buffalo Tom, blues and soul singer Mighty Sam McClain, and Greek tenor Mario Frangoulis, will help re-open Dorchester's Strand Theatre as part of the "Give US Your Poor Concert" to benefit the city's homeless. They will be joined by formerly homeless musicians who contributed, along with Merchant, to a benefit album of the same title. 8 p.m. $25-$110. Strand Theater, 543 Columbia Road, Dorchester. 617-635-3911. ticketweb.com
