An early tribute

The late composer Daniel Pinkham loved early music, and tonight at 8, Music for Viols and Friends pays tribute to the New England composer with "Sagas." Pinkham's five-movement piece switches styles from lyrical to dancelike and fugal, and one movement was inspired by the tuning of the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle. This concert of Pinkham songs and instrumental music which honors the former chairman of the Early Music Department at the New England Conservatory of Music features mezzo-soprano Pamela Dellal, Duo Maresienne (Carol Lewis on viola da gamba, Olav Chris Henriksen on lute), and William Henriksen on violin. Tickets: $22, $17 for students, seniors, and low-income. First Church Congregational, Mason and Garden streets, Cambridge, 617-776-0692.
